We are looking for an experienced steel estimator who shares our passion for accuracy and wants to play a pivotal role in securing our next generation of landmark projects.
Position Overview:
As an experienced Steel Estimator you will be the foundation of our bidding process. You won't just be counting tons; You will be analyzing complex architectural and structural drawings, forecasting material and labor costs, and identifying strategic oppertunities or risks in project designs. You will work closly with our detailing, fabrication, and project managment teams to deliver competitive, highly accurate bids for commercial, industrial, and infastructural projects.
What You'll Do:
Takeoffs & Pricing:
Perform comprehensive material Takeoffs ( Structural steel, miscellaneous metals, joist/deck) from architectural and structural drawings.
Cost Forecasting:
Quantify labor, shop, coatings, shipping/freight, and feild erection costs.
Software Utilization:
Leverage industry-standing estimating software to build and organize complex estimates.
Scope Analysis:
Review project specifications, clarify scope gaps, and draft detailed requests for information during the pre-construction phase. Vendor & Subcontractor relations: Solicit and evaluate quotes from steel mills, vendors, and third-party erectors to ensure competitive pricing.
Proposal Creation:
Prepare and present formal, transparent bid proposals, including detailed scopes of work, exclusions, and qualifications for clients.
Hand-Off:
Participate in post-award transition meetings to seamlessly pass historical project data and budget expectations over to project managers. What We're Looking For Experience
- Minimum of 5 years dedicated experience estimating structural steel and miscellanous metals for an industrial fabricator or erector. Blueprint Literacy
- Exceptional ability to read and interpret complex structural, architectual, and mechanical drawings. Tech-Savvy
- Proficiency with steel-specific software. Strong mastery of advanced Excel formulas is a major plus. Industry Knowledge
- Deep understanding of AWS (American Welding Society) and AISC (American Instute of Steel Construction) standards and practices. Analytical mindset
- A sharp eye for detail
- someone who catches the missing connection detail or hidden scope requirmentthat others overlook. Communication
- Strong interpersonal skills to confidently negotiate with vendors and clarify bid details with General Contractors and engineers.
