Job Description
Job Summary:
The Retail Estimator Salesperson will assist customers with purchasing merchandise by providing an accurate estimate of project materials in addition to guidance about products needed to fulfill their project needs.Duties/Responsibilities:
- Greets and interacts with customers.
- Consults with customers to understand their needs and preferences related to merchandise.
- Prepares material estimates based on the customer's project specifications.
- Demonstrates and explains merchandise, selecting and suggesting options suitable for the customer's needs.
- Answers customer's questions about merchandise.
- Assists customers with purchase decisions.
- Collects payment using the store point of sale system.
- Processes returns and exchanges.
- Develops and maintains relationships with potential and existing clients in the residential and commercial construction industry.
- Identifies and locates new clients through a variety of methods including networking and cold calls.
- Applies knowledge of the field and product features to match products to the needs of clients.
- Answers inquiries from clients concerning products, their uses, and the industry at large.
- Provides information, material estimates, credit terms, and other bid specifications to clients.
- Collaborates with purchasing departments, managers, and other staff to confirm that orders are processed with accuracy and efficiency and that products are distributed properly.
- Periodically prepares and reports results, status of accounts, and leads to manager.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Blueprint reading and estimation.
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Excellent active listening skills.
- Excellent sales and customer service skills.
- Extensive knowledge of the merchandise sold.
- Ability to anticipate customers' needs.
- Ability to recommend merchandise to customers.
- Ability to operate or to quickly learn the store's point-of-sale system.
- Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with clients.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Blue Print reading and takeoff.
- Previous construction project estimation sales experience.
- Product training provided.
Physical Requirements :
- Prolonged periods of standing and walking throughout the retail space.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
