Job Description
Position SummaryReporting to the Technical Solutions Manager, the Senior Estimating Engineer is responsible for preparing accurate and timely cost estimates and customer quotations for new and existing business opportunities. This role applies advanced technical knowledge of manufacturing processes to evaluate product specifications, develop cost models, and support profitable quoting decisions.
This is a senior-level individual contributor role with no direct supervisory responsibility.
Key ResponsibilitiesCore EstimatingPrepare detailed cost estimates and quotations for RFQs.
Review engineering drawings, specifications, and CAD models.
Develop cost models including labor, materials, overhead, and tooling.
Validate routing and process assumptions with Engineering and Operations.
Estimate cost impacts associated with design changes and engineering revisions.
Profitability & AnalysisEnsure quotes align with established margin targets.
Support pricing reviews prior to customer submission.
Perform post-award cost validation and basic variance analysis.
Provide cost analysis support to Finance as requested.
CollaborationCoordinate RFQ activity across Sales, Engineering, Operations, and Supply Chain.
Participate in technical reviews and program kick-off meetings.
Summarize key cost drivers, assumptions, and risks for internal stakeholders.
Process SupportMaintain estimating tools, templates, and cost databases.
Identify opportunities to improve quoting accuracy and efficiency.
Support continuous improvement initiatives related to estimating and quoting processes.
Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in Engineering, Finance, or a related field.5+ years of experience in quoting, estimating, costing, or manufacturing engineering.
Strong understanding of machining and medical device manufacturing processes.
Demonstrated experience leading complex RFQs.
Strong blueprint reading and CAD familiarity.
Advanced financial acumen and margin analysis capabilities.
Proven cross-functional leadership and collaboration skills.
Preferred QualificationsExperience in a regulated medical manufacturing environment.
Experience with ERP systems.
Experience supporting customer negotiations.
Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement experience.
Advanced CAD and blueprint reading expertise.
