Charlotte, NC Area Industry:
Commercial Electrical Construction Compensation:
Competitive Base Salary + Performance-Based Bonus Senior Electrical Estimator - Commercial Construction A well-established and growing commercial electrical contractor in North Carolina is seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Estimator to join its Preconstruction team. This is more than a traditional estimating position. Our client is looking for an estimator who can help develop winning project strategies, identify risk and opportunity, build accurate and profitable estimates, mentor other estimators, and help bridge the gap between Preconstruction and Operations. The ideal candidate understands that a successful estimate isn't simply a number. It requires understanding the complete project, anticipating challenges, evaluating constructability, developing strategy, and positioning the Operations team for successful execution. What You'll Do Develop detailed, competitive, and profitable electrical estimates for substantial commercial construction projects. Analyze project opportunities to identify risks, scope gaps, constructability concerns, and potential competitive advantages. Review complete project documents, including architectural, structural, mechanical, civil, and electrical drawings and specifications. Develop budgets and estimates from conceptual drawings, narratives, schematic designs, design-development packages, and incomplete construction documents. Support design-build and design-assist projects from early preconstruction through final pricing. Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and develop labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, and vendor pricing. Participate in bid reviews, scope reviews, project interviews, and client meetings. Communicate estimating assumptions, exclusions, risks, and project strategy clearly to internal and external stakeholders. Develop and maintain relationships with vendors, subcontractors, engineers, clients, and other project partners. Lead effective project handoffs from Preconstruction to Operations. Review the work of other estimators and help improve estimating consistency and accuracy. Mentor and develop junior members of the Preconstruction team. Help improve estimating processes, standards, technology, and best practices. What We're Looking For 7+ years of electrical estimating experience, preferably with a commercial electrical contractor. Proven experience estimating substantial commercial electrical construction projects. Strong understanding of commercial electrical systems, installation methods, labor requirements, and constructability. Field electrical experience is highly valued. Experience developing budgets from conceptual, schematic, design-development, and incomplete construction documents. Experience with Accubid Anywhere and LiveCount, or comparable electrical estimating software. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Working knowledge of lighting and lighting control systems. Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Ability to identify scope gaps, risk, and opportunity within poorly coordinated or incomplete documents. Ability to manage multiple estimates and project opportunities simultaneously. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Associate's degree or higher preferred but not required for candidates with significant relevant industry experience. Who Will Be Successful We're looking for someone who combines strong technical estimating experience with a strategic mindset.
The right person will be:
Honest, accountable, and straightforward. Curious and constantly looking for ways to improve. Comfortable taking ownership and making informed decisions. Able to challenge assumptions constructively. Capable of solving problems without needing every answer provided. Comfortable interacting directly with clients and project partners. Interested in mentoring and developing other estimators. Able to work within established estimating processes while helping improve them. Motivated by winning the right work and contributing to successful projects—not simply completing bids. Project Experience Relevant project experience may include: Corporate & Office Healthcare Education Automotive & Racing Industrial Institutional Complex Commercial Construction Design-Build / Design-Assist Projects Why Consider This Opportunity? This position offers significantly more influence than a traditional estimating role. The Senior Electrical Estimator will have the opportunity to help determine which opportunities are pursued, how projects are positioned and estimated, how risk is evaluated, and how awarded projects transition into Operations. You'll also have the opportunity to mentor others, improve processes, contribute to preconstruction strategy, and have a meaningful impact on the continued growth of the organization. For an experienced estimator who wants their judgment, technical knowledge, and industry experience to matter, this is an opportunity to take on a highly visible role with a growing electrical contractor. Compensation & Benefits Competitive base salary, commensurate with experience Performance-based bonus opportunities Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, and life insurance 401(k) with company match Professional development and leadership growth opportunities Long-term advancement potential Collaborative environment that values initiative, technology, continuous improvement, and smart decision-making All inquiries and applications will be handled confidentially through our recruiting firm.
