- Mechanical/Plumbing Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior Estimator specializing in mechanical and plumbing systems to produce accurate, competitive cost estimates for commercial and industrial construction projects.
The Sr. Estimator will lead preconstruction estimating activities, perform detailed takeoffs, coordinate with engineering and field teams, and support bid strategy and contract negotiations to help the company win profitable work while managing risk and ensuring constructability. Key Responsibilities Prepare detailed, lump-sum and unit-price estimates for mechanical and plumbing scopes, including material, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
Perform quantity takeoffs from drawings and specifications using manual and digital tools; verify accuracy of measurements and assumptions.
Review design documents and coordinate with engineers, project managers, and trades to identify scope, clarify details, and resolve discrepancies.
Develop bill of materials (BOM), cost assemblies, and estimate backup documentation to support proposals and scope breakdowns.
Lead value engineering efforts to optimize cost, schedule, and constructability while maintaining code compliance and system performance.
Prepare bid proposals, cover letters, and estimate summaries; present pricing and assumptions to internal stakeholders and clients as needed.
Monitor bid results and perform post-bid analysis to identify estimating improvements and lessons learned. Qualifications Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
7+ years of progressive estimating experience focused on mechanical/plumbing systems within commercial or industrial construction.
Proven technical knowledge of plumbing, piping, HVAC systems, equipment, and installation methods.
Proficiency with estimating and takeoff software (examples: Accubid, Trimble, PlanSwift, Bluebeam) and MS Office suite.
Experience with public and private bidding, subcontractor procurement, and familiarity with contract documents and change order processes. Benefits Competitive salary, commensurate with experience
