Structural Steel Estimator

Upstate Steel is a family-owned company and a leading fabricator and supplier of structural steel, sheet, and plate. We serve a wide range of industries, including commercial construction, residential building, municipalities, and highway/bridge (DOT) projects. Our in-house capabilities include shearing, sawing, CNC cutting, forming, rolling, and code welding. We are seeking a detail-oriented Steel Fabrication Estimator to join our growing team. Responsibilities:

• Review and interpret structural and architectural drawings and specifications
• Prepare accurate estimates for steel quantities, processing, and labor
• Communicate with customers, engineers, and designers regarding project details and RFIs
• Collaborate with the sales team on bid strategy and CRM updates
• Track bid schedules, addenda, and deadlines to ensure timely submissions
• Maintain organized records of estimates and project documentation
• Ensure accuracy in takeoffs, steel weights, and cost projections
• Provide excellent customer service throughout the bidding process
• Assist with additional tasks as needed to support operations

Required Qualifications:

• 1-2 years of construction or related experience preferred
• Experience with estimating or drafting software (Tekla preferred)
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
• Strong math, communication, and organizational skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
• High attention to detail
• Field experience is a plus This is a full time, 40 hour/ week position.
