$85,000 - $110,000 per year Position Overview We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically strong Estimator to support injection mold tooling and molded product quoting operations at our Rochester, NY facility. This role is responsible for developing accurate and competitive cost estimates for injection mold tooling, piece-part production, and value-added assemblies. The ideal candidate will bring strong injection molding knowledge, analytical capabilities, and cross-functional collaboration skills to ensure precise quoting and profitable project execution. Key Responsibilities Estimating & Quoting- Prepare detailed cost estimates for: o New injection molds o Mold modifications and transfers o Piece-part production pricing o Secondary operations (assembly, pad printing, ultrasonic welding, packaging, etc.)
- Analyze customer RFQs, engineering drawings, 3D CAD models, and technical specifications
- Develop pricing models based on: o Resin/material costs o Cycle time assumptions o Press size and machine rates o Labor and overhead o Target margins
- Support both quick-turn budgetary quotes and formal production quotations Engineering & Technical Analysis
- Review part designs for Design for Manufacturability (DFM)
- Estimate tooling complexity including: o Cavitation strategy (single vs. multi-cavity) o Hot runner vs. cold runner systems o Tool steel requirements o Tooling lead times
- Recommend material alternatives and process improvements to optimize cost
- Provide input on mold design assumptions and production feasibility
- Collaborate with tooling vendors (domestic and offshore) to validate tooling cost and lead times Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Sales to clarify customer requirements and develop pricing strategies
- Coordinate with: o Manufacturing o Tooling o Supply Chain o Quality teams
- Participate in technical discussions with customers when required
- Support new program launches with cost validation and post-award review Cost Management & Data Accuracy
- Maintain estimating models, cost databases, and historical pricing records
- Track quote accuracy and compare estimated vs. actual production costs
- Support re-quotes and production cost-down initiatives
- Contribute to continuous improvement in cost modeling and pricing accuracy Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in: o Injection molding estimating o Process engineering o Manufacturing engineering
- Strong understanding of: o Injection molding processes o Mold construction and tooling o Resin materials and processing characteristics
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and 3D CAD models
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (advanced preferred)
- Experience using estimating software and/or ERP systems
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills Preferred Qualifications
- Experience estimating: o Multi-cavity molds o Hot runner systems o High-volume production programs
- Industry experience in automotive, medical, consumer goods, or industrial products
- Experience working with offshore tooling suppliers
- Background in mold design, processing, or project management
