Job Description

Mechanical Estimator - Process PipingPosition OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Mechanical Estimator specializing in process piping to produce accurate, competitive estimates for industrial and commercial mechanical systems. This role is responsible for quantity takeoffs, pricing, and bid preparation for piping, sheet metal, and HVAC scopes using industry-standard estimating tools. The ideal candidate combines deep technical knowledge of process piping systems with strong software skills (Trimble, Quickpen, Bluebeam) and proven commercial judgment to support successful project wins.

Key ResponsibilitiesPrepare detailed quantity takeoffs and cost estimates for process piping, trim, sheet metal, and HVAC systems from drawings, specifications, and project scopes.

Use Trimble, Quickpen and Bluebeam (or similar takeoff tools) to perform digital takeoffs and maintain accurate estimating documentation.

Solicit, evaluate and incorporate vendor and subcontractor quotations into estimates; verify pricing and lead times.

Develop comprehensive material, labor, equipment and subtrade cost breakdowns and build-up spreadsheets for bid proposals.

Collaborate with project managers, engineers and procurement to clarify scope, resolve discrepancies, and identify potential cost savings and value engineering opportunities.

Produce clear, professional proposals, bid narratives, and bid summaries for internal review and client submission.

Maintain and update historical cost databases, unit price lists and estimating templates to improve accuracy and consistency.

Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits and internal estimating reviews to assess risks, constraints and constructability issues.

Support post-bid activities including bid clarifications, change order pricing and claims preparation as required.

Ensure estimates comply with contractual requirements, industry standards, and company estimating procedures.

Qualifications5+ years of mechanical estimating experience with a focus on process piping in industrial, commercial or heavy industrial projects.

Proven experience using Trimble, Quickpen, and Bluebeam for digital takeoffs and estimate preparation.

Strong understanding of piping materials, fittings, supports, insulation, valves, and related mechanical equipment; familiarity with sheet metal and HVAC systems.

Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction drawings, P&IDs, isometrics, and specifications.

Excellent analytical and mathematical skills with meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.

Effective communication and teamwork skills; ability to coordinate with engineers, suppliers and project teams.

Proficient with Microsoft Excel and estimating software; experience maintaining cost databases.

Associate or Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, Estimating or related field, or equivalent work experience.

Ability to manage multiple bids under tight deadlines and adapt to changing project requirements.
