Job Description

Pre-Construction Coordinator Zimmerman Building Company, a third-generation, family-owned construction firm, is looking for a detail-driven, motivated Pre-Construction Coordinator to own estimating and support our sales process for residential and commercial construction projects. This role is a critical part of the Pre-Construction team, turning plans and scope into accurate, competitive estimates that set every project up for success. What You'll Do
  • Own the estimating process for assigned projects, from takeoff through final pricing, producing accurate cost breakdowns, material take-offs, and timelines.
  • Partner with the Pre-Construction Specialist and Director to shape winning proposals, bringing pricing accuracy and technical detail to every bid.
  • Represent Zimmerman Building Company at customer meetings and site visits, gathering scope and answering early technical questions with confidence.
  • Source materials and evaluate options in coordination with estimating and job profitability targets.
  • Coordinate the handoff between the customer and the Construction department, documenting scope, allowances, and site conditions clearly.
  • Maintain accurate, current CRM/pipeline records for every project you're assigned, logging updates in real time.
  • Grow your estimating and sales ownership over time, with a path toward the Pre-Construction Specialist role. Candidate Traits (and How They Show Up in This Role)
Detail-orientated:
You catch what others miss on take-offs, pricing, and plans.
    Self-starting:
You move projects forward without waiting to be told what's next.
    • Naturally curious: You ask the right questions to fully understand scope before pricing it.
    Team-oriented:
You support the Specialist and Director, and pitch in wherever the department needs you.
    • Clear communicator: You explain pricing and scope clearly to both clients and teammates.
Technology & AI We believe technology creates a competitive advantage. Our Pre-Construction team uses AI-assisted workflows to reduce estimating and proposal turnaround times while improving consistency and quality. You should be comfortable learning, using, and improving AI-enabled workflows, including tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, estimating software, take-off tools, and construction management software. What You'll Need
    • Ability to complete take-offs from drawings and produce accurate estimates.
    • 4-year engineering or construction management degree, or relevant experience.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Excel and construction management software.
    • Experience in construction, estimating, or a related field preferred. Preferred but Not Required
    • Background in construction, engineering, or architecture.
    • Familiarity with estimating software or construction management tools.
