S.E.T., Inc. is a growing heavy civil contractor specializing in highway, bridge, and infrastructure construction across Ohio and surrounding states. As a $100M+ contractor, we are focused on disciplined growth, operational excellence, and building strong internal systems to support long-term expansion. We're hiring a Junior Estimator to learn the estimating process from the ground up — takeoffs, subcontractor solicitation, and bid assembly — while supporting our Estimators and Preconstruction team on active pursuits.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Junior Estimator supports the estimating team through takeoffs, subcontractor solicitation, and bid assembly, learning the estimating process from the ground up under the direction of an Estimator or Preconstruction Manager. The right candidate is detail-oriented, eager to learn, and genuinely curious about how heavy civil work is priced and built — production rates, crew build-ups, equipment spreads, and field constraints. You will work closely with Estimators and the Preconstruction team to support active bid pursuits.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Takeoffs & Plan Review — Assist with digital quantity takeoffs from plans and specifications under the direction of an Estimator — Help review construction plans and specs to understand project scope — Learn estimating software, takeoff tools, and internal bid procedures Subcontractor & Supplier Support — Support subcontractor and supplier outreach, and help organize incoming pricing — Help track bid coverage and follow up on outstanding quotes Bid Assembly & Opportunity Tracking — Assemble bid documents and scope sheets under supervision — Track upcoming bid opportunities on public and private letting platforms — Organize bid files, addenda, and correspondence for active pursuits
QUALIFICATIONS
Required — Degree (or in progress) in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field — 0-2 years of construction estimating, project engineering, or related field experience — Strong attention to detail and comfort working with numbers — Proficiency with Microsoft 365; willingness to learn Bluebeam and estimating software Preferred — Prior internship or field exposure to heavy civil or highway construction — Familiarity with reading grade stakes, plan sets, or civil drawings
