Position Summary The Estimator is responsible for evaluating project specifications and drawings, ensuring a complete and accurate cost estimate. Under the supervision of the Chief Estimator, this position collaborates frequently with stakeholders including internal employees across departments as well as external customers, vendors, and subcontractors. Essential Functions Review plans, specifications, drawings to determine the cost of the project Analyze time, material, and manpower requirements for each project Perform material takeoffs and develop a written estimate of cost to perform the work according to the specifications Provide the Estimating Manager with a detailed cost estimate, corresponding proposal letter and bid form breakout and take over ownership of the project Interface with customers, vendors, and subcontractors to determine the cost of the project Gather information to determine subcontractor and vendor suitability and aggressively gain the best pricing Visit customer field locations as required to ascertain project conditions Attend pre and post bid meetings as required and be able to effectively present information to clients to sell our projects Select pool of potential subcontractors and equipment vendors to solicit their proposals Analyze special safety and code requirements on all projects Work as part of an integrated team in acquiring projects Properly turns over bid documents to Project Management in a timely manner Other duties as assigned by manager/supervisor Qualifications HVAC or Mechanical technical school/degree, Mechanical Engineering degree or a minimum of 2 years of estimating experience required Prior experience in Mechanical Construction environment or Mechanical Estimating experience preferred Prior sheet metal and piping experience preferred Self-motivated, possess strong communication and computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Estimation or Quickpen) Must have a valid Driver's License Must have the ability to walk at least a mile, climb stairs and climb ladders up to 30' high.
