Job Description
Construction Estimator & Purchasing DCH Contractors LLC is a family owned and operated business servicing multi disciplined construction projects in the Philadelphia PA region. The company specializes in high rise residential renovations, boutique commercial interiors and custom carpentry projects. DCH Contractors was established in 2003 by David C. Horlacher bringing with him over 40 years of urban construction experiences.
Job Overview Estimator:
Obtain basic data specific to the project, such as size and scope, type or design, bill of materials, dimensions and specifications, topography, area labor rates, availability of materials, etc.; take-off quantities; sets up detail sheets and computes (in itemized form) labor, material, equipment installation.
Purchasing:
Determines the most economical sources from which materials, stores, supplies, equipment, fuels, parts and services of specified quantity and quality can be purchased at the lowest prices consistent with delivery schedules. Performs duties incident to make purchases, such as, securing quotations, preparing or proving contracts and specifications, making reports, maintaining source files, arranging transportation, routing, and other related duties as necessary. Essential Duties & Responsibilities
• Make preliminary examination of drawings and specifications and, if necessary, hold a pre bid conference with the Job Superintendent and others on construction procedures Obtains basic data for preparation of estimates, quantity takeoffs Sets up detailed sheets and computes (in itemized form) labor, materials, equipment installation, to prepare bids for construction or for an estimate for clients Makes detailed studies and develops accumulated costs, statistics, and specifications for manuals and references Makes details of material quantities from drawings Uses drafting tools, architect scales, blueprints, calculator, computers and software Investigates and follows through on cost control of estimates, advises on cost control Makes economic studies for other personnel or departments Checks expenditures to see that they come within estimates Establishes procedures to carry out cost control and estimates Secures quotations on special items and on portions for all purchases of equipment, tools, stores, supplies, materials, fuels, parts, and services Checks purchase orders against specifications Prepares and issues purchase orders to cover procurement Maintains approved lists of items Reviews of vendors selections on inquiries received Processes supplements to purchase orders Selects and purchases items for time and place of delivery Compile bids, data, literature, contract forms, an approved list of items Obtains prices for estimating purposes Maintains lists of prices, vendors facilities, and delivery situations Approves invoices and bills Makes periodic checks with suppliers to ensure that deliveries are made on schedule Keeps the Superintendent posted on shipments for onsite storage and delivery status Receives sales representatives and keeps self and others posted on new developments and sources Keeps a file of catalogs and manufacturers' literature indexed and dated Maintains an index listing and classifying sources of supply: names and addresses of firms and brands they handle Arranges transportation routing for materials and equipment. Traces lost or misplaced shipments Collects invoices for the accounting or bookkeeping department before payment is made Analyzes bids Maintains and controls purchases and stores Coordinates purchases with project management and superintendents Establishes all purchasing procedures and methods Checks and inspects or is responsible for all deliveries; verifies quantity, quality; corrects errors, shortage; handles damages; initiates claims Keeps aware of general conditions, economic trends, price changes, discounts, freight rates, shortages, strikes, and markets Maintains a perpetual inventory of stored materials, keeps adequate supplies on hand, and buys under most favorable conditions
Qualifications:
Minimum of (6) years of related experience. Knowledge of building construction, means and methods, scheduling and cost control procedures, general contract, general conditions, subcontract documents, drawings and specifications, including Microsoft Office Suite proficiency. Ability to read, understand and interpret contract documents, drawings specifications, scope of work and project schedule. Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills.

Performing this job requires the use of hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, sit, talk and hear (bells, whistles, etc.), climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. While performing duties, the employee will frequently be required to sit, use hands to manipulate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands. The role also involves talking, hearing, and regularly viewing a computer monitor and using a keyboard. The employee must be mobile and occasionally travel both short and long distances. Regular on-site work at construction sites is required, with occasional office or off-site work. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.

In the office, the noise level is typically quiet to moderate. At construction sites, the noise can be moderate to loud, with exposure to moving mechanical parts, high or precarious places, fumes, airborne particles, outside weather conditions, and the risk of electrical shock. Employees must adhere to safety policies, procedures, and applicable laws while working in these environments.

Pay:
$58,240.00 - $68,170.00 per year
