Virtual Position Overview CES is seeking a self-motivated, detail-oriented Estimator to provide cost estimating services for an
MTA NYCT CM
Division of Car Equipment ("DCE") Car Washer Component Repairs Project. This is a fully remote position. The ideal candidate must be responsive, reliable, and able to deliver high-quality work under tight deadlines. Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently are essential for success in this role.
Responsibilities:
Prepare detailed cost estimates. Review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, BOQs, and contract documents to develop accurate quantity take-offs and pricing. Develop conceptual, preliminary, and detailed estimates at various project phases. Perform quantity take-offs using drawings where applicable. Evaluate labor, equipment, material, subcontractor, and indirect costs, including escalation, contingencies, and risk allowances. Coordinate with engineering, planning, scheduling, construction, and procurement teams to validate scope, assumptions, and pricing. Support bid preparation, including pricing strategies, subcontractor comparisons, and bid reviews. Analyze scope changes, claims, and variations, providing cost impact assessments and backup documentation. Develop change order estimates and support team during negotiations. Additional duties as assigned by management.
Required Skills and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field with a minimum of 3 years of experience in cost estimating for NYC transit projects OR no bachelor's degree with a minimum of 5 years of experience in detail cost estimating for NYC transit projects. Cost data/resource directory and relevant estimating MTA experience with CMs within the past 5-7 years is a must. Proven experience in developing and managing cost estimates for medium and large-scale projects. Strong understanding of project management principles, including scope, time, cost, and risk management.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in cost estimation software and tools. (e.g., Bluebeam) Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
Soft Skills:
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with stakeholders. Excellent organizational abilities to manage multiple tasks and deadlines. Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and take initiative. Perform additional project controls related duties as required.
