•185,000 base + bonus + profit sharing About the Role We are seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to join our growing power utilities construction team in Jackson, Mississippi. This is a key role responsible for developing accurate, competitive estimates and bids for high-voltage transmission and substation construction projects . You will work closely with project management, engineering, procurement, operations, and senior leadership to develop complete cost estimates and competitive proposals for complex utility infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will have substantial estimating experience within electrical utility construction , particularly transmission, substations, or related high-voltage infrastructure. Key Responsibilities Lead the preparation of detailed estimates for transmission and substation construction projects. Analyze project drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and contract documents. Develop detailed labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, and indirect cost estimates. Prepare competitive bids and proposals for utility clients and major contractors. Perform quantity takeoffs and develop accurate pricing from project plans and specifications. Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations. Identify project risks, exclusions, assumptions, and potential cost exposures. Work with operations and project management teams to validate construction means, methods, schedules, and costs. Participate in bid reviews and present estimates and pricing strategies to senior leadership. Maintain and develop relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, vendors, and utility customers. Support post-bid reviews and transition awarded projects to the operations/project management team. Monitor market conditions, labor rates, material pricing, and subcontractor availability to ensure estimates remain competitive. Assist with developing estimating processes, tools, templates, and best practices. Mentor and provide guidance to junior estimators and estimating staff. Qualifications 7+ years of construction estimating experience, preferably within power utilities, electrical construction, transmission, or substations . Strong understanding of high-voltage transmission and substation construction.
Experience estimating projects involving:
Transmission lines Substations Switchyards Distribution infrastructure Foundations and civil work Overhead and underground electrical construction Ability to interpret electrical, civil, structural, and construction drawings. Strong understanding of construction labor, equipment, material, and subcontractor costs. Experience preparing estimates for projects ranging from smaller utility upgrades to major capital projects. Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving abilities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously. Proficiency with construction estimating software and Microsoft Excel. Preferred Experience Experience with EPC, design-build, or utility contractor projects. Experience bidding work for investor-owned utilities, municipalities, cooperatives, or major energy companies. Experience with large-scale transmission and substation projects. Familiarity with utility construction contracts, specifications, and procurement processes. Experience with estimating software such as HCSS, HeavyBid, Accubid, Bluebeam, or equivalent.
