Job Description
Position Summary The Senior Estimator is responsible for leading the estimating and preconstruction efforts for low-voltage and physical security projects, including structured cabling, telecommunications infrastructure, access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, DAS, and related integrated systems. This position leverages extensive industry knowledge, RCDD principles, and construction estimating expertise to develop accurate, competitive, and technically compliant proposals for commercial, industrial, healthcare, education, government, and mission-critical facilities. The Senior Estimator serves as a technical resource during project pursuit, collaborating with sales, engineering, project management, vendors, and customers to develop complete project solutions while ensuring adherence to industry standards, codes, and best practices. Key Responsibilities Estimating & Proposal Development Prepare detailed cost estimates for low-voltage and physical security projects ranging from small renovations to large-scale enterprise deployments. Review construction documents, specifications, bid packages, and customer requirements to develop comprehensive project scopes.
Perform quantity takeoffs for:
Structured cabling systems Fiber optic backbone infrastructure Access control systems Video surveillance (CCTV/VMS) Intrusion detection systems Intercom and emergency communication systems Wireless infrastructure Data center infrastructure Develop labor estimates using industry productivity standards and historical cost data. Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations. Identify scope gaps, risks, exclusions, and value-engineering opportunities. Prepare bid summaries, pricing models, and executive-level proposal packages. Technical Review & Design Analysis Analyze telecommunications and security system designs for constructability and compliance. Interpret and apply industry standards including: BICSI methodologies
ANSI/TIA
standards NEC requirements NFPA requirements Local building codes Provide technical recommendations for system architecture and infrastructure design. Support design-build and design-assist opportunities. Evaluate alternative products and technologies to improve project value and competitiveness. Vendor & Customer Coordination Develop and maintain relationships with manufacturers, distributors, and subcontractors. Coordinate equipment pricing and procurement strategies with preferred vendors. Participate in customer meetings, site surveys, pre-bid conferences, and scope review meetings. Assist business development teams with technical presentations and proposal reviews. Preconstruction Leadership Lead bid strategy discussions and estimate review meetings. Coordinate handoff meetings with project management and operations teams upon project award. Maintain estimating databases, labor units, and historical project cost information. Track bid results and continuously improve estimating accuracy. Mentor junior estimators and support professional development initiatives. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Telecommunications, Technology Systems, or related field preferred. Minimum 7-10 years of estimating experience within the low-voltage, structured cabling, telecommunications, or physical security industry. Demonstrated experience estimating projects valued from $100K to $10M+.

Structured cabling systems Fiber optic infrastructure Physical security technologies Telecommunications spaces and pathways Network infrastructure environments Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel. Experience with estimating software platforms and takeoff tools. Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and technical documents. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Preferred Qualifications RCDD certification strongly preferred.
