He will also work with the subcontract manager in making preliminary subcontractor selections and assist scheduling with the preparation of the network. Additionally, he may be involved in preparation of or providing data for the Technical Proposal. When requested, the lead estimator will participate with senior management during the pricing session, answering questions about the proposal, competition, etc. Must have knowledge of ships that we repair. The lead estimator is responsible for: Create and maintain the estimator's bid file: Detailed review of the solicitation / contract and the work specifications Work with the subcontract manager to identify items requiring subcontract quotations Identify material requirements and solicit quotations for specific material items as well as identification of long lead time items Review estimates and cost returns from previous proposals and contracts on the same or similar vessels Attend ship check as required to prepare estimate Prepare detailed estimate, by item; with breakdown of hours by craft, material and subcontract cost, drydock cost, and other costs Review subcontract quotes upon receipt and make preliminary selections based on price, exceptions, services required, and past performance Evaluate work package, identify controlling items, and estimate length of availability Assist and prepare charts and graphs as required for MSC or other Govt. bids. Submit completed estimate file to Chief Estimator or designee for review; make changes as directed Prepare bid letter, to include necessary notes, clarifications, and exceptions Participate with senior management during pricing meeting and provide input on estimate Participate in discussions and negotiations with customer and sales department : the lead estimator is responsible for: Provide breakdowns of labor, materials, and subcontracts to administrative assistant for preparation of Protocol [package Identify selected subcontractors to subcontract manager Participate in Protocol meeting Assist Project Manager with estimating and negotiation of changes, preparation and submission of progress invoices, and settling of the final invoice, if required Provide a copy of the repair contract to the project manager and accounting Starting pay range from $55,000 - $65,000. Salary depending on experience.
