Job Description

Job description Established commercial millwork and seating company is searching for an experienced Estimator to join the team in a leadership capacity. The Senior Millwork Estimator will manage the estimating department, provide mentorship, and develop bid strategies to ensure accurate, profitable, and competitive bids for custom woodworking projects. This role is vital for aligning the company's estimating process with its financial goals and overall business strategy.
Key leadership responsibilities Team management:
Supervise, train, and mentor junior estimators and support staff, assign bids, and review work for accuracy and consistency.
Strategic bidding:
Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and implement bid strategies that maximize profitability while staying competitive.
Process improvement:
Implement and standardize estimating procedures, forms, and templates. Oversee the adoption and use of estimating software and tools.
Interdepartmental coordination:
Act as a liaison between estimating, sales, production, and project management to ensure a seamless project handoff from the bidding stage to execution.
Relationship management:
Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with clients, architects, general contractors, and vendors to secure competitive pricing and ensure client satisfaction.
Core tasks:
Analysis and take-offs: Review architectural drawings, specifications, and project plans to perform detailed quantity take-offs for millwork and casework projects.
Costing and proposals:
Prepare comprehensive cost estimates by analyzing material and labor costs, as well as subcontractor and vendor quotes.
Bid management:
Ensure timely and accurate submission of all proposals and bids, tracking deadlines and prioritizing the department's workload.
Cost data maintenance:
Maintain and update a historical database of project costs to improve the accuracy of future estimates.
Budgeting and forecasting:
Assist in developing project budgets and financial forecasts, aligning estimates with job costing and profitability tracking systems.
Qualifications:
Experience:
5-7+ years of experience in commercial or architectural millwork estimating, with prior experience in a leadership or senior role Millwork knowledge: Deep understanding of millwork materials (veneers, laminates, solid surfaces, etc.), fabrication techniques, and industry standards (e.g., AWI).
Leadership abilities:
Demonstrated capacity to lead a team, mentor junior staff, and set priorities.
Soft skills:
Strong analytical and mathematical skills, high attention to detail, and excellent communication abilities for interacting with various stakeholder
