Job Overview We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Estimator for Heavy Civil projects to join our team. In this pivotal role, you will lead the estimation process for complex heavy civil construction projects in the water and waste water construction field, ensuring accurate cost projections and competitive bids. Your expertise will drive project success from initial concept through bid submission, collaborating closely with project managers, clients, and subcontractors. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to small and large-scale infrastructure developments while utilizing your extensive construction industry experience and estimating skills. This position is not just an estimator position, we are a growing and transitioning construction company, this role replaces my father who has performed my estimation for me. This role will have you throwing estimates together on $2,500 simple items to dialing in a detailed estimate on a $8+M project. We currently do not run any bidding software but are very open to doing it. Duties Lead the development of detailed project estimates for heavy civil construction projects, including sewer lift station, sewer plants, water treatment facilities, water booster stations, well sites, and site development. Review and interpret construction drawings, technical specifications, and blueprints to accurately determine material requirements and labor needs. Manage and coordinate subcontractor bids through effective negotiation strategies to ensure competitive pricing while maintaining quality standards. Conduct thorough quantity takeoffs from blueprints and construction drawings, translating technical details into precise cost data. Monitor project budgets by implementing cost control measures, tracking expenses, and adjusting estimates as needed throughout the bidding process. Communicate clearly with clients and internal teams to present estimates, explain assumptions, and address questions related to project costs and scope. Review construction management software and spreadsheets to ensure accuracy in estimating material costs, labor hours, equipment needs, and other project components. Collaborate with project managers during the planning phase to develop realistic budgets aligned with project goals and client expectations. Stay current on industry trends, pricing fluctuations, material costs, and new estimating technologies to enhance accuracy and efficiency. Experience Proven experience managing projects as a construction estimator within the heavy civil or infrastructure sector. Extensive knowledge of construction industry standards, contracts, blueprints reading, and technical drawings interpretation. Strong skills in negotiation with subcontractors and suppliers to secure favorable pricing without compromising quality or safety standards. Demonstrated ability to review construction drawings thoroughly and extract relevant data for accurate cost estimation. Construction site experience is highly desirable to better understand on-the-ground realities influencing estimates. Excellent communication skills for client interaction, team collaboration, and presenting detailed bid proposals confidently. Knowledge of cost management practices including material cost estimating, budget forecasting, and cost control techniques across commercial heavy civil projects.
