Job Description
Overview A Greater Austin Development is seeking a detail-oriented Assistant Estimator to support the estimating team in preparing accurate, timely, and competitive cost estimates for civil construction projects. This position assists with plan review, quantity takeoffs, material pricing, bid coordination, and estimate documentation. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Read and interpret civil construction plans, specifications, bid documents, and related project information.
- Perform quantity takeoffs and material takeoffs from plans for assigned scopes of work.
- Input estimate data into estimating software and maintain organized estimate files, bid tabs, and supporting documentation.
- Assist with pricing labor, materials, equipment, subcontractor, and vendor costs under the direction of the estimating team.
- Request, track, and organize subcontractor and supplier quotations to support complete and competitive bids.
- Help prepare bid summaries, scope sheets, clarifications, and other preconstruction documents needed for estimate review and submission.
- Review project documents for completeness and identify missing information, scope gaps, or items requiring clarification.
- Coordinate effectively with estimators, project managers, operations staff, vendors, and trade partners during the bidding process.
- Follow company policies and procedures, including safety expectations and professional standards.
- Perform other related duties as assigned. Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Construction Science, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- One or more years of construction estimating, takeoff, project coordination, or related civil construction experience preferred.
- Experience reading blueprints, plans, and specifications in a construction environment required for success in the role.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook preferred; experience with estimating or digital takeoff software is a plus.
- Strong math, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- High attention to detail, organization, and follow-through.
- Ability to work independently while also contributing to a team environment.
