Entry-Level / Junior (0-3 years) Company Overview Black Fox Services is a family-oriented heavy civil and environmental contractor specializing in erosion mitigation, dredging, and environmental construction. Our work includes dam repair, bridge scour protection, earthwork, soil stabilization, site development, and transportation projects. We are committed to delivering high-quality projects safely, on time, and within budget. Position Summary The Junior Estimator supports the estimating team in preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for heavy civil construction projects. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented recent graduate or early-career professional seeking hands-on experience, exposure to industry best practices, and long-term growth within a collaborative preconstruction team. Key Responsibilities Assist in preparing detailed cost estimates for heavy civil projects (earthwork, concrete, dredging, storm pipe, soil retention, etc.) Review project plans, specifications, and bid documents to define scope and quantities Perform quantity takeoffs using blueprints, digital takeoff software, and manual methods Solicit and analyze pricing from subcontractors and material suppliers Maintain and update cost databases for labor, equipment, and materials Support bid preparation, including organizing proposals, bid forms, and subcontractor quotes Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and job walks as needed Assist Senior Estimators and Project Managers in analyzing historical data and project risks Track and log incoming bids and subcontractor responses Ensure estimates comply with company standards and client requirements Qualifications Education Bachelors or Associate degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Science, or a related field (preferred, not required) High school diploma required Relevant coursework or internship experience in estimating or quantity surveying is a plus Experience 0-3 years of experience in construction estimating (heavy civil, infrastructure, or general contracting preferred) Internship experience in construction or estimating is highly valued Recent graduates with strong academic or project experience are encouraged to apply Technical Skills Basic understanding of heavy civil construction methods and sequencing (earthwork, grading, utilities, concrete, paving, etc.) Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (formulas, pivot tables, VLOOKUP required) Familiarity with estimating software (HCSS HeavyBid, Bluebeam Revu, PlanSwift, AutoCAD, Agtek) is a plus Ability to read and interpret civil plans, specifications, and contract documents Strong mathematical and analytical skills with attention to detail Ability to perform manual quantity takeoffs Soft Skills Strong organizational and time-management abilities Effective written and verbal communication skills Ability to work independently and collaboratively Eagerness to learn in a fast-paced environment Problem-solving mindset with the ability to manage multiple deadlines Additional Requirements Authorized to work in the United States Valid drivers license and reliable transportation Willingness to travel occasionally for site visits or meetings Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening and background checkSimilar jobs in Mineral Wells, TX
