Job Description

Estimator Trueline Contractors - Smithfield, UT About Trueline Trueline Contractors is a growing excavation and utility contractor specializing in residential and light commercial site development across Northern Utah. Since 2021, we've built a reputation for high-quality work, clean and professional job sites, and strong relationships with developers and builders. We are backed by an experienced ownership group with deep roots in construction and homebuilding, and we are focused on building a durable, long-term company. Position Overview We are looking for an Estimator to support preconstruction efforts across civil construction projects including wet utilities (water, sewer, storm), earthwork, grading, and site development. This role plays a key part in bid strategy, cost accuracy, and overall project profitability. The estimator will be responsible for developing complete and competitive estimates while identifying risks, gaps, and opportunities within project documents. In addition to building estimates, this role will contribute to improving company performance by analyzing current and past projects to refine pricing, identify inefficiencies, and support better outcomes in the field. This is primarily an in office, hands-on role with real responsibility and visibility across the full project lifecycle—from initial takeoff through project handoff and ongoing cost awareness during construction. The role also provides exposure to both preconstruction and operations, with the opportunity to take on broader responsibilities over time based on performance and initiative. Key Responsibilities Perform detailed quantity takeoffs from civil plans and specifications (utilities, grading, earthwork, and sitework) Build and manage complete project estimates, including labor, equipment, and material pricing Solicit, review, and level vendor and subcontractor quotes Identify discrepancies, ambiguities, and missing information in plans and specifications and coordinate clarifications (RFIs) Evaluate project risks, assumptions, and opportunities prior to bid submission Support development of bid strategy, including pricing approach and scope coverage Attend pre-bid meetings and site walks as needed Prepare and assemble bid proposals and supporting documentation Assist with change order pricing and maintain awareness of project performance relative to estimate Analyze current and past project performance to improve estimating accuracy, job margins, and operational efficiency Support smooth and accurate handoff of awarded projects to operations
Qualifications Required:
Experience in construction estimating (civil, excavation, or related field) Familiarity with takeoff and estimating tools (e.g., Agtek, Trimble Business Center, Bluebeam, or similar) Strong analytical and problem-solving ability High attention to detail and accuracy Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities Self-starter with a high level of ownership and accountability
Preferred:
3-7+ years of experience in civil construction, excavation, or site development Project management experience Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience) Strong computer aptitude and ability to learn new systems quickly Compensation Competitive salary based on experience Performance-based incentives Long-term advancement opportunities
Pay:
$65,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
