Job Description

Hard Surface Flooring QA & AI Training Specialist Cooper Installation Services
  • Dallas, TX (Remote Considered)
  • $70K-$80K + Benefits
  • Reports to VP of Operations The Role in One Paragraph Every Home Depot hard surface purchase order (PO) that comes into Cooper is reviewed by an AI agent before it touches a contractor.
We need a human who is measurably better at that review than the agent is today — and who will systematically close that gap by teaching the agent what they know. You will own PO accuracy for our hard surface line, protect contractor pay integrity, and be the architect of the agent that eventually supersedes your manual review function. This is the job. It is not a stepping stone. If that framing makes you uncomfortable, this isn't the right fit. If it sounds like the most interesting thing you've read in a while, keep going. What You'll Own PO Review & Accuracy — 60% of your time Review every hard surface PO from Home Depot — LVP, LVT, hardwood, laminate, tile, stone — for scope accuracy, product-to-jobsite fit, labor unit pricing, material quantities, and subfloor conditions. Flag discrepancies in square footage, product selection, transitions, underlayment specs, or labor line items before they reach a contractor. Identify systemic HD PO errors — misclassified products, missing tear-out allowances, wrong installation methods — and document the patterns. Serve as the escalation point for contractors disputing scope or labor compensation. Maintain a running accuracy log comparing your determinations to the AI agent's, with documented rationale for every divergence. AI Agent Training & Skill Development — 40% of your time Work directly with our platform and AI infrastructure teams to evaluate the agent's outputs against yours. Write and maintain skill.md files that encode your domain knowledge into structured, testable logic the agent can execute. Design test cases from real POs — edge cases, unusual subfloor conditions, product discontinuations, regional pricing anomalies — and run them against the agent systematically. Track agent accuracy over time and set quarterly improvement targets with the Operations and IT teams. Participate in sprint reviews, flag where the agent fails, and own the documentation required to fix it. What You Must Know Cold This role lives or dies on your flooring expertise. You will be evaluated on it during hiring — expect technical scenarios, not trivia.
LVP / LVT
— click vs. glue-down, wear-layer specs, subfloor flatness tolerances, expansion gaps, moisture barriers. Hardwood — site-finished vs. pre-finished, acclimation, nail vs. glue vs. float, species and Janka hardness. Tile & Stone — substrate prep, ANSI A108 standards, grout joint sizing, large-format considerations, mortar selection. Laminate — AC ratings, underlayment compatibility, moisture limits. Subfloor assessment — concrete vs. wood, moisture testing, the 3/16" over 10' flatness spec, repair scope. Transitions — T-molding, reducer, threshold, end cap: when each applies and where POs miss them. Home Depot PO structure — how HD writes scopes, how labor lines are calculated, where errors recur, what the SPA says about scope disputes. What We'll Teach You You do not need a software background. You need intellectual curiosity, precision, and a willingness to think like an engineer about what you already know. How to read and write skill.md files for AI agent instruction. How to evaluate AI output for logical accuracy vs. domain accuracy. Basic prompt evaluation and structured documentation technique. Cooper's internal systems (Job Manager, FileMaker, the PO intake agent). You're the Right Person If You have 5+ years in hard surface flooring — installation, estimation, QA, or inspection. You've caught expensive mistakes before a job started and can describe exactly how you caught them. You think systematically about why errors happen, not just that they happened. You are comfortable being wrong in writing — because logging your reasoning, including the misses, is how the agent gets better. You can write clearly for two audiences at once: humans and machines. You are intrigued by AI rather than threatened by it. Compensation & Logistics Base salary: $70,000-$80,000, dependent on flooring expertise depth and any prior QA or technical-documentation experience.
Location:
Dallas, TX preferred for periodic on-site collaboration. We will consider fully remote for exceptional candidates and expect quarterly travel.
Benefits:

Reports to:
VP of Operations. How to Apply Send a resume and a 200-400 word writing sample to icarbajal@cooperinstallations.com (subject line: Hard Surface QA + AI Training ). The writing sample should describe a costly flooring mistake you caught — what you saw, what you checked, what would have happened if you'd missed it. We read every one.
Process:
Resume screen → 30-min phone conversation → 90-minute technical scenario review (real anonymized POs) → on-site or video panel with Operations and Platform → offer. We target three weeks start to finish. One honest note we won't bury: the long-term trajectory of this role is to make its own manual-review function obsolete. We are hiring someone who sees that as a legacy worth building. The person who trains this agent well will have earned a permanent seat at the table in whatever comes next.
Pay:
$70,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
