Job Title:
Glass Installer Job Description The Glass Installer ensures the precise and safe installation of windows and skylights in residential and commercial buildings. This role combines technical skill, attention to detail, and a strong focus on safety to deliver high-quality glazing work that meets project specifications and building codes. Responsibilities Study blueprints and building plans to understand project specifications and installation requirements. Measure openings accurately and verify dimensions to ensure a precise fit for glass and framing components. Use tools to cut and shape glass so it fits frames and openings with exact accuracy. Check that glass is properly aligned, level, and straight throughout the installation process. Assemble and install metal and wood components used to support and secure glass in place. Fasten glass using clips, moldings, and other fastening systems according to project specifications. Apply putty, caulking, or weather seal to seal windows and skylights and ensure proper waterproofing. Inspect completed installations to ensure they are free of defects, properly aligned, and meet quality standards. Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively for cutting, grinding, fastening, and finishing work. Follow and comply with all applicable federal, state, and local health and safety regulations and building codes. Use required personal protective equipment and follow safe work practices at all times. Move, lift, and carefully handle heavy panes of glass to prevent damage and ensure safe installation. Work in and move through tight or difficult-to-access spaces as needed to complete installations. Essential Skills Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and building plans. Strong measuring skills and familiarity with proper measuring techniques. Ability to use measuring tools accurately for layout and installation. Skilled in glass cutting and shaping to achieve precise fits. Experience with framing and installation of glass, including metal and wood components. Proficiency in caulking and waterproofing techniques for windows and skylights. Hands-on experience using common hand tools and fabrication tools in construction or glazing. Ability to lift, carry, and carefully handle heavy panes of glass safely. Solid arithmetic skills to determine sizes, dimensions, and fastener requirements. Thorough understanding of glazing techniques, including dry glazing, wet glazing, cable netting, and snap-in systems. Knowledge of how to properly use tools such as grinders, glass cutters, caulk guns, finish nailers, miter boxes, and utility knives. High level of attention to detail to ensure accurate alignment of glass and to identify defects in materials or installation. Ability to remain upright for extended periods during a shift and to work in confined or hard-to-reach areas. Knowledge of relevant building codes, health and safety standards, and required personal protective equipment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working with a variety of measuring tools and hand tools in a construction or installation setting. Experience in fabrication or framing work related to windows, doors, or architectural glass. Familiarity with different types of glazing systems and installation methods. Comfort working on both residential and commercial job sites. Ability to work independently and as part of a team to complete projects efficiently. Work Environment This role involves on-site work at residential and commercial properties, often in active construction or renovation environments. You will regularly use hand tools and power tools such as grinders, glass cutters, caulk guns, finish nailers, miter boxes, and utility knives. The position requires standing for most of the shift, lifting and carrying heavy glass panes, and working in tight or difficult-to-access spaces. You will follow all applicable building codes, health and safety standards, and use appropriate personal protective equipment while working. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tallahassee, FL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $26.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
