Shipfitter - Immediately Hiring - Camp Pendleton Job Description The Shipfitter lays out, fabricates, and installs aluminum components such as plates, bulkheads, frames, and braces within the hull of a ship to prepare structures for welding or riveting. This role works directly from blueprints and templates, uses a variety of hand and power tools, and operates shop machinery to shape and fit heavy metal parts with precision. Responsibilities Lay out the position of aluminum parts, including plates, bulkheads, frames, and braces, within the ship hull using blueprints or templates. Use scribes, measuring tools, and hand tools to mark and prepare materials accurately for fabrication and installation. Mark the location of holes to be drilled and install temporary fasteners to hold parts securely in place for welding or riveting. Roll, bend, flange, cut, and shape plates, beams, and other heavy metal parts using shop machinery such as plate rolls, presses, and bending brakes. Interpret and follow blueprints and fabrication drawings to ensure correct dimensions, alignment, and fit of all components. Measure and verify dimensions using measuring tape, levels, and squares to maintain high-quality standards and structural integrity. Use hand tools and carpentry techniques to perform finish work and ensure clean, accurate fits and finishes on all components. Work safely around fabrication equipment and tools, maintaining a clean and organized work area. Collaborate with welders, fabricators, and other trades to coordinate work and ensure timely completion of shipfitting tasks. Essential Skills Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and templates for metal fabrication and shipfitting. Strong ability to use a measuring tape accurately for layout and verification of dimensions. Skilled in using levels and squares to ensure proper alignment and squareness of components. Ability to operate a Skilsaw and other cutting tools safely and accurately. Experience using hand tools for layout, cutting, shaping, and finishing metal and related materials. At least 2 years of finish carpentry experience, with proven ability to perform precise layout and finishing work. Capability to mark hole locations and install temporary fasteners to prepare parts for welding or riveting. Knowledge of basic fabrication techniques, including rolling, bending, flanging, cutting, and shaping metal parts. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working with aluminum plates, bulkheads, frames, and braces in a marine or shipyard environment. Familiarity with shop machinery such as plate rolls, presses, and bending brakes. Proficiency in carpentry or metal finishing that supports detailed and precise fabrication work. You will use shop machinery such as plate rolls, presses, and bending brakes, along with hand tools, measuring tools, and cutting equipment like Skilsaws. The position follows a first-shift schedule, typically 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, with an alternate first-shift schedule of 5:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. as needed. The environment may include both indoor and outdoor shipyard conditions, requiring awareness of safety procedures and appropriate work attire suitable for fabrication and shipyard work. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Oceanside, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
