Job Description
Aerotek is hiring Structural Welders in New Castle County, DE! Job Description This position focuses on fitting and welding structural steel components for large-scale construction projects such as warehouses, manufacturing facilities, high-rise buildings, and commercial structures. You will interpret blueprints and digital drawings, perform precise measurements and layouts, and fabricate structural assemblies to tight tolerances. As the team adopts digital workflows, you will regularly use tablets and computers to access drawings, work instructions, and fabrication plans while maintaining high standards of quality and safety. Responsibilities Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to determine layout, assembly requirements, and weld locations. Accurately measure, mark, cut, and fit structural steel components using welding, bolting, and other fastening techniques. Use a tape measure with precision down to 1/16th of an inch to ensure accurate layout, fit-up, and fabrication of components. Set up and operate fabrication tools and machinery, including saws, torches, grinders, and drill presses, to prepare and finish structural parts. Fit and assemble structural steel members to meet dimensional, alignment, and quality standards before final welding or assembly. Work closely with welders, machine operators, and quality control personnel to maintain production accuracy, efficiency, and schedule adherence. Utilize tablets and computers to access and interpret digital drawings, work instructions, and fabrication plans. Perform inspections and quality checks on completed assemblies to verify compliance with specifications and tolerances. Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area in accordance with OSHA regulations and company safety procedures. Assist with material handling, including loading, moving, and unloading steel components using appropriate tools and equipment. Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying issues, suggesting process improvements, and following established best practices. Essential Skills Proven experience as a structural steel fitter and welder in a fabrication or structural steel environment. Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and fabrication specifications. Proficiency in structural fitting, including layout, fit-up, and assembly of structural steel components. Skilled use of a tape measure with precision down to 1/16th of an inch. Hands-on experience with flux core welding for structural applications. Experience working with structural steel and stainless steel materials. Ability to operate fabrication tools and machinery such as saws, torches, grinders, and drill presses safely and effectively. Comfort using tablets and computers to access and interpret digital drawings and work instructions. Strong attention to detail and commitment to meeting tight tolerances and quality standards. Ability to collaborate effectively with welders, machine operators, and quality control staff. Understanding of and adherence to OSHA safety standards in a fabrication shop environment. Physical ability to stand, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs for extended periods. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working on large-scale construction projects such as warehouses, manufacturing facilities, high-rise buildings, or commercial structures. Experience in structural steel fabrication environments with exposure to heavy machinery and production workflows. Familiarity with digital workflows in fabrication, including reading drawings and work instructions on tablets or computers. Demonstrated ability to perform quality checks and inspections on structural assemblies. Willingness to work occasional overtime and weekend shifts to meet project deadlines. You will use tools such as saws, torches, grinders, and drill presses, as well as tablets and computers for accessing digital drawings and instructions. Occasional overtime and weekend shifts may be required to meet project deadlines, and you will follow established safety procedures and OSHA standards throughout your work. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of New Castle, DE. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
