Based on experience and fitter classification (DOE) Join Our Team Today Southland Steel Fabricators is seeking a skilled and motivated Structural Steel Fitter to join our fabrication team. If you take pride in producing high-quality work, have experience reading blueprints and assembling structural steel components, we want to hear from you.
What You'll Do:
Assemble and fit steel components according to blueprints, shop drawings, and specifications Interpret welding symbols, drawings, and work orders to determine project requirements Perform precise measurements, layout work, and fitting tasks to ensure quality and accuracy Prepare materials by cutting, drilling, grinding, beveling, and fitting components Operate shop equipment including grinders, drills, saws, punches, oxy-fuel torches, plasma cutters, and other hand tools Complete weld preparation activities as required Move and organize materials to support production needs Install temporary bracing to prevent distortion during welding Conduct visual quality inspections to verify work meets company standards Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment Assist with additional fabrication tasks as directed by supervision
What We're Looking For:
Required Qualifications Knowledge of basic shop mathematics Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and welding symbols 1-2 years of structural steel fitting experience Preferred Experience Heavy structural steel fabrication and fitting experience Familiarity with fabrication shop equipment and tools Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship Why Work With Southland Steel Fabricators?
