An Iron or Steel Worker installs iron or steel beams, girders or columns that create the structural frame for tall buildings, bridges or other large structures.
GLO Resources is currently hiring for a Shipfitter with marine/shipyard experience to work locally within St. Rose, LA . The pay depends on experience between $25 - $28/hr. Typical workdays are Monday - Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with the potential for overtime.
Key Responsibilities:
Verify conformance of workpieces to specifications, using squares, rulers, and measuring tapes. Align and fit parts according to specifications, using jacks, turnbuckles, wedges, drift pins, pry bars, and hammers. Position, align, and fit to form complete units or subunits. Follow blueprints and layout specifications, use jigs, and hand tools. Lay out and examine metal stock or workpieces to be processed to ensure that specifications are met. Properly heat the metal to ensure it is malleable and can be given the proper shape. Straighten warped or bent parts, using sledges, hand torches, straightening presses, or bulldozers. Smooth workpiece edges and fix taps, tubes, and valves.
Qualifications:
2+ years of experience in ship fitting, structural fitting, or metal fabrication in a shipyard is Ability to read blueprints and understand schematics. Comprehensive understanding of ship repair terminology. Compliant with wearing the PPE required for the job as prescribed under OSHA standards. PPE includes a hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toe shoes, goggles, respirator, safety harness, safety line, flotation gear, etc.) Able to perform fitting, cutting, and grinding on structures. Possess a valid Driver's License. Willing to submit to a drug screen.
Physical Requirements:
This position involves regular physical activity, including: Standing for prolonged periods. Frequent bending, kneeling, and crouching. Pushing and pulling heavy objects. Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
