Job Description

Job Overview Unite Contracting is seeking a skilled and experienced Journeyman Structural Fitter to join our construction and fabrication team. The successful candidate will be responsible for interpreting mechanical blueprints, fabricating, assembling, and installing structural components with precision and adherence to safety standards. This role offers an opportunity to work on diverse projects in a dynamic environment, utilizing advanced welding techniques and mechanical knowledge to deliver high-quality structural solutions. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong craftsmanship, technical expertise, and a commitment to safety and efficiency. Duties Read and interpret detailed mechanical blueprints, technical drawings, and fabrication shop drawings to accurately guide assembly and installation processes. Measure, mark, cut, and shape metal materials—including sheet metal and structural steel—using calipers, micrometers, plasma cutters, and power tools. Fabricate structural components through various welding techniques such as FCAW (Flux-Cored Arc Welding), MIG (Metal Inert Gas), TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas), and SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding) in accordance with AWS (American Welding Society) standards. Assemble fabricated parts on-site or in the shop using hand tools, measuring instruments, and mechanical fasteners to ensure proper fit-up. Install structural elements on construction sites with cranes or other lifting equipment while maintaining strict safety protocols. Use shop math and basic math skills to calculate measurements, material quantities, and fabrication tolerances. Maintain a clean, organized work environment, adhering to all safety procedures related to welding, machining, handling metal materials, and working at heights. Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other tradespeople to ensure project specifications are met efficiently. Requirements Proven experience as a journeyman structural fitter or similar role within construction or metal fabrication environments. Extensive construction site experience with knowledge of crane operation and safe material handling practices. Proficiency in reading blueprints, technical drawings, and interpreting mechanical blueprints. Skilled in welding techniques including
FCAW, MIG
welding, TIG welding, SMAW, and gas metal arc welding. Familiarity with measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, tape measures, and shop math calculations. Hands-on experience with sheet metal fabrication, ductwork installation, machining, plasma cutting, and assembly processes. Strong mechanical knowledge of metal materials used in structural applications. Ability to operate power tools safely and efficiently while following all safety protocols. Knowledge of AWS standards for welding quality assurance. Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail in fabrication shop environments. Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment by adhering to all safety regulations. Pay:
$30.00 - $35.00 per hour Expected hours: 72.0 - 84.0 per week
