Construction Welder- Job Description
- This role focuses on structural welding and metal fabrication for industrial and commercial projects, including inspection, repair, and new construction work. You will fabricate, fit, and assemble metal components from drawings, support iron crews with onsite welding, and ensure all work meets required specifications and safety standards.
- Responsibilities
- + Inspect and repair handrails, catwalks, guard rails, platforms, staircases, and similar structural components.
+ Run metal saws and cut a variety of metal materials to specified lengths. + Operate overhead cranes to move and position structural steel and other heavy materials safely. + Operate forklifts to transport materials and equipment around job sites and fabrication areas. + Perform welding and fabrication on prototype and repair projects using appropriate welding processes. + Support new construction projects by assisting iron crews with onsite welding and structural connections. + Obtain required work permits before onsite work and adhere to all permit conditions. + Fit and assemble metal parts from prototype prints through to finished projects, ensuring proper alignment and fit-up. + Read and interpret drawings and blueprints to determine dimensions, materials, and fabrication requirements. + Verify that all fabricated and installed parts match specifications, drawings, and quality standards. + Conduct job walks at customer sites to assess project requirements and conditions. + Provide practical design solutions and recommendations to customers based on job walk findings. + Use grinders and other metalworking tools to prepare, finish, and refine welded and fabricated components. + Perform routine maintenance-related fabrication and repair tasks as needed on structural and mechanical components.
- Essential Skills
- + Proficiency in MIG welding for structural and fabrication projects.
+ Proficiency in stick welding for structural steel and field welding applications. + Experience with flux core welding in construction and structural steel environments. + Hands-on experience in structural steel fabrication, including fitting and assembly. + Ability to read, interpret, and apply blueprints and drawings to fabrication and installation work. + Skill in blueprint interpretation and blueprint reading for structural and fabrication projects. + Experience with metal fabrication, including cutting, framing, and assembling metal components. + Ability to operate metal saws and perform precise steel and metal cutting. + Experience with grinder operation and finishing work on metal components. + Experience in construction or structural steel work, including iron work and metal framing. + Ability to operate overhead cranes safely for lifting and positioning structural steel and materials. + Ability to operate forklifts safely in industrial and construction environments. + Experience performing maintenance technician tasks related to metal repair and fabrication.
- Additional Skills & Qualifications
- + Experience in steel beam fabrication for structural projects.
+ Experience in iron work, including erection and connection of structural steel members. + Experience in iron or metal framing and erecting in commercial or industrial settings. + Prior exposure to working on prototype fabrication projects from concept to completion. + Familiarity with obtaining and working under industrial work permits. + Comfort performing job walks and interacting directly with customers to discuss design solutions.

- Work Environment
- You will work on-site at various industrial facilities and commercial locations, including loading docks at grocery stores, where you will repair guard rails and similar structural elements.
The work involves both shop and field environments, with frequent use of welding equipment, metal saws, grinders, overhead cranes, and forklifts. Projects often take place in active industrial areas and loading docks, requiring awareness of moving vehicles, materials handling equipment, and other site operations. Expect a hands-on, physically active role in a construction and structural steel setting, with appropriate workwear and personal protective equipment required to meet safety and site standards.

- Pay and Benefits
- The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your jobclassification and length of employment.
