• 12:00 AM About the Role Speedway Steel is hiring an experienced Structural Steel Fitter for our 2nd shift fabrication shop.

This role demands precision — you'll be laying out, fitting, and tacking structural steel assemblies to tight tolerances on commercial and industrial projects. If you know your way around a tape, a square, and a set of drawings and can fabricate steel to tight tolerances we want to hear from you. Responsibilities Lay out and fit structural steel members including beams, columns, base plates, shear tabs, connection plates, and misc. steel fabrications Fit assemblies to tolerances within 1/16" per project specifications and AISC standards Read and interpret structural steel drawings, erection drawings, and shop tickets Tack weld assemblies in position for welders using FCAW Use layout tools, levels, squares, and measuring equipment to ensure dimensional accuracy Verify material against the bill of materials and shop tickets before fitting Work closely with welders and the shift foreman to maintain production flow Identify and communicate fit-up issues, drawing conflicts, or material discrepancies to the foreman Keep work area clean, organized, and safe Follow all shop safety policies and PPE requirements Qualifications Required 3-5 years of structural steel fitting experience in a fabrication shop environment Demonstrated knowledge of AISC fabrication standards and tolerances Ability to fit to tight tolerances within 1/16" Strong proficiency reading structural steel drawings and weld symbols Experience tack welding assemblies prior to final weld Ability to use precision layout and measuring tools accurately and consistently Ability to interpret and follow weld symbols Preferred Experience in an AISC-certified fabrication shop Familiarity with

structural welding standards as they relate to fit-up and joint prep OSHA 10 certification
