Shop Technician

Job Title:

Shop Technician Job Description As a Shop Technician, you will operate band saws and circular saws to cut metal stock to precise lengths and angles. You will utilize hand and power tools for layout, deburring, drilling, tapping, and fit-up. Additionally, you will operate orbital sanders and grinders to prep surfaces, remove weld spatter, and achieve specified finishes. Your ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings, including dimensions, tolerances, materials, and finishing notes, will be essential. You will measure and verify parts using various metrology tools and assist in fabricating metal components, assembly, and supporting welders/fitters as needed. Responsibilities Operate band saws and circular saws for precise metal cutting. Use hand and power tools for layout, deburring, drilling, tapping, and fit-up. Operate orbital sanders and grinders for surface preparation. Read and interpret blueprints/technical drawings. Measure and verify parts using metrology tools. Fabricate metal components and assist with assembly. Support welders/fitters as needed. Load and unload trucks; safely move materials/parts. Maintain a clean and organized work area. Participate in cross-training and on-the-job learning. Essential Skills 1-3 years of experience in a metal shop, fabrication, or related mechanical role. Proficiency with band/circular saws, hand & power tools, orbital sanders, and grinders. Ability to read blueprints and follow work instructions accurately. Basic knowledge of metals and shop math. Familiarity with basic fabrication practices. Additional Skills & Qualifications Apprenticeship or vocational training is a plus. Welding experience is a plus. Consistent use of PPE and adherence to shop safety procedures. Strong attention to detail and quality. Reliable and collaborative work ethic. Why Work Here? Work Environment The work schedule is from 6am to 3:30pm, with usual hours extending to 6am to 4:30pm. Flexibility for overtime hours (6am-6pm or 6am-8pm) is encouraged. The work environment is fast-paced and team-oriented, requiring adherence to safety and quality standards. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Patchogue, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $27.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
