General Summary of Position The Commercial Structural Joist Technician exists to install a variety of structural flooring systems including Comslab, EcoSpan, Hambro and traditional metal decking; structural steel and other products offered as add-ons to Klover Wall Panel Systems. This position must be familiar with the tools of the trade and can read, follow, and understand blueprints, drawings, and work orders. Ability to weld is a plus, but not always necessary for this role. Reference qualifications section III. Essential (Core Competencies) Duties Accurately measure and read height, width, length, and other proportions with a tape measure Assist foreman with proper layout for work to be put in place Fabricate or alter parts using grinders, sawzalls, shears, hammers, punches, or drills Join materials with PAFs, nails, screws, staples, or adhesives Use levels, rules, plumb bobs, framing squares, and lasers to ensure everything is level and secure Check work along the way to ensure it meets specification and quality standards Install/use rigging and hoisting equipment Install flooring systems according to specifications and building codes Maneuver units into position for installation, and anchor the units Perform welds using stick processes for joists or deck in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions (optional) Work at heights with several elevated platforms Keep work area clean and productive Always exercise the proper use of PPE Set up and safely use company equipment Maintain welding certification through maintenance logs and supervisor observation
Qualifications Preferred Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED Participation in a secondary or post-secondary trade curriculum 1+ year experience with floor joist, metal deck, or structural steel installation Knowledge and understanding of construction safety devices and PPE 1+ year experience with stick welding. Current
