Position Summary The Fabricator/Welder is responsible for reading and interpreting shop drawings to fabricate structural steel components, performing welding in accordance with AWS standards, and ensuring all work meets project specifications and quality requirements. This is a shop-based position at our South Pittsburg facility. Key Responsibilities Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and welding symbols to determine fabrication sequence and specifications Fit and weld structural steel components (beams, columns, plates, angles, etc.) using MIG, flux-core, and/or stick welding processes Operate fabrication equipment including saws, drills, iron workers, and grinders Measure, mark, and cut steel to specified dimensions and tolerances Perform visual inspection of welds to ensure quality and conformance to

structural welding code Maintain accurate production records and communicate job progress to shop supervisor Follow all safety protocols, including proper use of PPE, and maintain a clean, organized work area Assist with loading/unloading materials and finished product as needed Perform other duties as assigned by shop leadership Qualifications Minimum 2 years of structural steel fabrication and welding experience preferred AWS certification (or ability to pass welding qualification test) required Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and welding symbols Working knowledge of

structural welding code Experience with MIG and/or flux-core welding processes; stick welding a plus Basic math skills (measurements, fractions, angles) Forklift and/or overhead crane experience a plus Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. regularly, and up to 75 lbs. occasionally Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work in various positions for extended periods Ability to work in a shop environment with exposure to heat, noise, fumes, and varying temperatures Ability to wear required PPE (welding helmet, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toed boots) for extended periods Schedule Full-time, shop hours (typically Monday-Friday, with occasional overtime based on production demands) Location South Pittsburg, TN Southern Spear Ironworks is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
