Position Summary
We are seeking a dependable and hardworking Laborer to join a metal recycling facility. This position involves assisting with the receiving, sorting, processing, and movement of various types of scrap metal. The ideal candidate is safety-conscious, comfortable working outdoors and in an industrial environment, and able to perform physically demanding work throughout the shift. At least 6 months of experience is preferred.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
Sort and separate different types of scrap metal and recyclable materials.
Assist with unloading materials from customer and company vehicles.
Move, stack, organize, and prepare materials for processing.
Assist with weighing incoming and outgoing scrap metal as needed.
Help maintain an organized and clean work yardRemove debris and maintain safe walkways and work areas.
Assist equipment operators and other team members with daily operations.
Use basic hand tools and equipment as assigned.
Identify and report unsafe materials, damaged equipment, or hazardous conditions.
Follow all company safety procedures and wear required PPE.
Perform general labor and other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
or more throughout the workday.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, push, pull, and lift for extended periods.
Comfortable working outdoors in heat, cold, wind, and other weather conditions.
Comfortable working around metal, machinery, trucks, dust, dirt, and loud noises.
Ability to work in a fast-paced industrial environment.
Qualifications
Previous general labor, warehouse, construction, recycling, scrap yard, or industrial experience preferred.
Metal recycling or scrap yard experience is a plus but not required.
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
Must be dependable and have reliable transportation.
Must follow all safety policies and procedures.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Forklift or heavy equipment experience is a plus.
Work Environment
This position is primarily performed in an industrial metal recycling yard. Employees may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions, dirt, dust, noise, sharp materials, heavy equipment, and moving vehicles. Proper PPE and attention to safety are required at all times.
Required PPE / Dress Code
Steel-toe work boots
Work jeans or durable work pants
Work shirt/long-sleeve shirt as required
Safety glasses, gloves, hard hat, hearing protection, and other PPE as required by the facility
Schedule
Monday-Friday Schedule may vary depending on operational needs. Overtime or occasional Saturdays may be required.
