An Iron or Steel Worker installs iron or steel beams, girders or columns that create the structural frame for tall buildings, bridges or other large structures.
Located in Ft. Worth, TX 76114, this position spans a 6-month duration with a pay rate of $17.00 - $19.25/Hr on W2. The role operates on the 2nd shift, scheduled from 3:30pm to 12:00am, Monday through Friday. Please note that all new hires must complete an initial training period on the 1st shift lasting at least two months; your performance during this time will dictate your transition to the permanent 2nd shift schedule.
Core Objectives:
Assemble and test diverse, moderately complex products to ensure we meet quality standards and delivery timelines for our customers. Execute specialized tasks including lock wiring, subassembly preparation, and final detailing. Manage production tasks involving various mechanical components and multiple part numbers. Support lean manufacturing goals to help the team improve overall productivity and lower operational costs. Operate under the guidance of direct supervision to ensure task alignment.
Key Duties and Functions:
Utilize mechanical skills and various tools—such as buffing equipment, calipers, and height gauges—to perform complex assembly and testing in a manufacturing setting. Verify that all necessary components and quantities are prepared so the welder can proceed with their tasks without delay. Maintain a daily count and size check of tubes designated for chemical cleaning. Process parts by buffing, hazing, or removing discoloration, followed by chemical cleaning when necessary. Ensure finished products are sleeved, boxed, and accompanied by fully signed-off documentation after inspection. Complete assemblies by applying epoxy tape and installing rivets and inserts into brackets. Identify and rework any non-conforming items discovered during the testing phase. Analyze blueprints, engineering orders, and quality directives to ensure production accuracy. Validate that all assemblies and paperwork align with engineering specifications and customer requirements to guarantee high-quality output. Produce and verify assemblies that strictly adhere to industry and customer-defined standards.
Additional Responsibilities:
Contribute to continuous improvement by suggesting ways to refine our lean processes. Provide mentorship and training support to newer team members. Maintain a clean, safe, and FOD-free workspace while strictly following all company policies to ensure a secure environment for everyone. Verify that all tools and equipment remain within their designated calibration schedules. Expand your technical knowledge to master new assignments and maintain high efficiency across all tasks.
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent, plus a minimum of two years of relevant manufacturing experience. Apply existing product knowledge to quickly master new manufacturing techniques. Select the most effective tools, procedures, and equipment for the task at hand. Demonstrate proficiency in reading technical blueprints and route sheets, alongside strong verbal, written, and basic computer skills. Exhibit a strong aptitude for mechanical reasoning. Apply lean manufacturing principles to daily tasks to drive operational efficiency. Communicate effectively with colleagues and contribute positively to a collaborative team environment. Utilize standard business software and internal systems like PMR, TORS, and email to manage reports and information. Engage in professional development, goal setting, and performance feedback to help the team reach its collective potential. Present production data clearly to management and fellow team members when required.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
Frequently move throughout the facility to operate various machinery. Maintain a stationary position for approximately 50% of the workday. Operate specialized plant machinery, assembly tools, and testing equipment. Identify parts and tools while inspecting work for precision and potential defects. Maintain consistent attendance and foster professional, cooperative relationships with coworkers. Transport parts or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds across the shop floor.
