Job Description
IASI is seeking skilled Shipfitter/Welders for contract work supporting marine and industrial repair projects across vessels, barges, lock & dam structures, and industrial facilities. Work includes structural steel fitting, component fabrication, welding, and repair of marine systems. Ideal candidates are experienced, safety‑focused, and capable of working independently or as part of a small, efficient crew. This is contract work with opportunities for recurring assignments based on performance. Key Responsibilities Fit, align, and install structural components including frames, bulkheads, stiffeners, brackets, and foundations Perform stick or MIG welding (SMAW, FCAW, GMAW) on steel or MIG/TIG aluminum components Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and marine structural drawings Measure, cut, bevel, and prep steel using torches, grinders, and saws Fabricate and install ladders, platforms, handrails, pipe supports, and deck equipment foundations Assist with repairs on barges, vessels, and industrial structures Perform hot work safely in shipyard, dockside, and industrial environments Work in confined spaces, tanks, and elevated areas as required Follow all safety procedures including hot‑work permits, confined space entry, and lockout/tagout Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in clean, safe condition Travel to job sites as needed (Gulf Coast, inland waterways, Midwest, Great Lakes) Requirements Proven experience as a shipfitter , welder , or structural steel fabricator Ability to read and interpret marine structural drawings Proficiency in SMAW, FCAW, and/or GMAW welding processes Ability to fit, align, and install steel components with precision Comfortable working in confined spaces, at heights, and in industrial environments Ability to lift 50+ lbs and perform physically demanding work Reliable transportation and ability to travel for multi‑day jobs Must pass drug screen and breathalyzer when required TWIC card is a plus OSHA 10, Hot Work, or Confined Space Entry training is a plus Experience with barge repair, USCG/USACE work, or industrial steel repair is a strong plus What We Offer Competitive contractor pay Steady project flow for high‑performing tradespeople Opportunities to work on unique marine and industrial projects Professional, safety‑focused work environment Potential for long‑term or recurring contract assignments About IASI Ideas and Solutions Inc.
