Electric Sign Installer Position Summary Electric Sign Installers are responsible for the safe and effective installation, maintenance, repair, and removal of interior and exterior signage (including illuminated signs). Working on job sites, they read plans, execute electrical and structural work, use lifting equipment, and ensure sign installations meet company specifications and client expectations. Advancement is available through career levels reflecting greater responsibility, technical expertise, and supervisory duties. Key Responsibilities & Duties Coordinate with project managers, clients, and contractors to plan job logistics. Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and site surveys. Load, secure, and transport signs, materials, tools, and equipment. Prepare installation surfaces; remove old signs and reinforce substrates. Drill, anchor, weld, or bolt supports and frames. Perform electrical wiring for illuminated signage. Install channel letters, cabinets, pylons, monuments, and digital displays. Operate aerial lifts, boom trucks, and scaffolding safely. Form, install, and pour concrete footing or pad foundations. Test and troubleshoot sign systems. Maintain tools, vehicles, and jobsite cleanliness. Train and mentor junior installers. Document job progress, photos, and change orders.

Advancement Levels & Requirements Junior Install Assistant:

Entry-level role; assist with site prep and support tasks. Requires valid driver's license, medical card, ability to lift 75 lbs, work at heights, basic tool use, and ability to follow instructions.

Intermediate Install Assistant:

Handles loading trucks, basic wiring, hanging patterns, and safe boom operation. Builds on Junior requirements.

Junior Installer:

Leads smaller installs, hangs patterns and wires signs independently, reads surveys, builds concrete forms, communicates with clients. CDL required.

Lead Installer:

Oversees full projects, operates crane/boom, welds, diagnoses signage, trains assistants, and ensures efficiency. Requires 1 year in-house or 3 years elsewhere.

Advanced Lead Installer:

Handles complex projects, mentors crews, and holds advanced certifications (JLG, crane, welding). Requires 3 years as Lead Installer. Required Skills & Competencies Mechanical aptitude and electrical knowledge. Ability to read drawings and wiring diagrams. Proficiency with tools, welding, and measuring devices. Concrete work, anchoring, and fabrication experience. Strong communication and customer service skills. Good judgment, problem-solving, and independence. Attention to detail and safety awareness. Physical & Environmental Requirements Lift and carry up to 75 lbs regularly. Climb ladders and operate aerial lifts at heights over 50 feet. Work outdoors in various weather conditions. Exposure to electrical hazards, welding arcs, and heavy machinery. Use of PPE (hard hats, gloves, safety glasses, harnesses, etc.).
