Job Title:
Structural Welder Job Description The Structural Welder will perform high-quality structural welding on piping systems, accurately interpret blueprints and shop drawings, and operate fabrication equipment and tools to support construction, repair, and maintenance activities. This role requires strong technical welding skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and quality in an outdoor, night-shift environment. Responsibilities Interpret and understand blueprints and shop drawings to plan and perform proper welds on structural components and piping systems. Perform stick and flux welding on structural steel and pipes ranging from 1-inch to 20-inch diameter. Carry out grinding and weld finishing to meet quality and structural integrity requirements. Operate fabrication equipment such as press brake, shear, drill press, and other related machinery. Use power tools and basic hand tools safely and effectively to support welding and fabrication tasks. Apply knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in the construction, repair, and maintenance of piping systems. Determine how systems should work and assess how changes in conditions, operations, or environment may affect outcomes. Identify and select the appropriate tools and equipment needed to complete each job efficiently and safely. Follow company standards and procedures for safety and quality at all times. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in outdoor conditions. Collaborate with team members and supervisors to complete assigned projects and tasks. Perform other duties as assigned to support project and operational needs. Essential Skills Minimum of 4 years of structural welding experience. Proficiency in stick and flux welding on structural components and piping systems. Previous experience working with pipes ranging from 1-inch to 20-inch diameter. Ability to interpret and apply blueprints, shop drawings, and written instructions. Strong knowledge of materials, methods, and tools used in the construction, repair, and maintenance of piping systems. Ability to evaluate how systems function and how changes in conditions, operation, or environment affect performance. Experience working with hand tools, power tools, and electronic test equipment. Proven ability to determine the appropriate tools and equipment required to complete specific jobs. Strong focus on safety and quality, with the ability to maintain a clean and organized work area. Capability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions on night shifts. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in structural welding within construction environments. Comfort working with structural steel and piping systems. Ability to operate fabrication equipment including press brake, shear, and drill press. Attention to detail in grinding and weld finishing to meet quality standards. Strong problem-solving skills related to system performance and operational changes. Work Environment This role is based outdoors and requires working in all weather conditions, rain or shine. The position follows a night shift schedule of 12-hour nights, Monday through Saturday. The environment involves active construction and fabrication work, including the use of welding equipment, fabrication machinery such as press brake, shear, and drill press, as well as hand tools, power tools, and electronic test equipment. Safety and cleanliness are emphasized, with an expectation to maintain an organized and safe work area throughout each shift. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Norfolk, VA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $35.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
