Job Description
Since 1981, Peterson's Welding and Machine has been Green Bay's most trusted job shop — fabrication, welding, precision machining, waterjet, and laser cutting under one roof. We serve demanding industries including food processing, dairy, paper, packaging, and marine, where tight tolerances and clean finishes aren't optional. Our fabricators work on a wide variety of challenging, meaningful projects — not the same part on repeat — and they're rewarded with competitive pay, profit sharing, and a shop environment that respects the craft. Position Overview We're looking for a skilled Metal Fabricator / Welder who can handle the full scope of fabrication work — layout, fit-up, welding, and finishing — and take pride in every part that leaves the shop. This is a hands-on role for someone who reads a blueprint and sees the finished part, who sets up their own work, and who holds themselves to a high standard without being told to. Welding proficiency is a core requirement of this role, not a secondary skill. If you're strong across multiple weld processes and have a solid fabrication background, this is the kind of shop where that combination is genuinely valued. Key Responsibilities Fabrication & Layout Perform fabrication layout from blueprints and drawings — marking, scribing, and measuring to precise specifications Set up and operate fabrication equipment: press brake, shear, ironworker, rollers, drill press, and flame cutters Fit, tack, and assemble metal components in preparation for welding and final assembly Work across a variety of materials including carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum Interpret and execute weld symbols, GD&T callouts, and fabrication tolerances from technical drawings Welding Perform MIG, TIG, and stick welding to print on structural and precision fabrication jobs Weld stainless steel components to sanitary standards for food, dairy, and processing industry customers Maintain consistent weld quality — proper penetration, appearance, and dimensional accuracy Select appropriate filler metals, shielding gas, and parameters for each material and process Finishing & Quality Perform sanitary grinding and polishing on stainless steel components to required surface finish specifications Inspect completed assemblies against drawings and customer requirements before release Deburr, grind, and finish fabricated parts to meet quality and aesthetic standards Identify and communicate non-conformances or fit-up issues before they become rework Safety & Shop Standards Follow all safety protocols including proper PPE, machine guarding, and material handling procedures Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workstation throughout the shift Collaborate with teammates and supervisors to hit production deadlines without sacrificing quality Qualifications Required Proficiency with MIG welding on carbon steel and stainless steel — this is a core job function, not a plus Ability to read and interpret fabrication blueprints and weld symbols without assistance Hands-on experience with fabrication equipment: press brake, shear, grinders, and layout tools Strong math and measurement skills — accurate layout is non-negotiable in this role Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and standing for extended periods Dependable, quality-focused, and accountable to the team Preferred 2+ years of metal fabrication experience in a job shop or manufacturing environment TIG welding experience, particularly on stainless steel Stick welding capability Sanitary grinding and polishing experience for food/dairy industry standards Familiarity with structural or precision fabrication across multiple industries Industries We Serve Your work at Peterson's will go into real applications across some of the region's most demanding industries. Our fabricators take pride knowing their parts end up in: Food and dairy processing equipment — sanitary-grade stainless fabrication Paper and packaging machinery — precision structural and mechanical assemblies Marine applications — demanding environments that require quality construction Industrial OEM manufacturing — custom components built to spec for machine builders What Makes This Role Stand Out A lot of fabrication shops run you on one process or one type of part. Peterson's is a full-service job shop, which means you'll use multiple skills, work across different materials, and solve different problems every week. For a fabricator who genuinely loves the trade and wants to stay sharp, that variety is hard to find. Add in a Monday-Friday day shift, a clean climate-controlled shop, and a team that's been doing this since 1981 — it's a stable place to build a long career. Benefits Health, dental, and vision insurance Short and long-term disability 401(k) Competitive pay Annual profit-sharing bonus Paid vacation and holidays Paid lunch break Clean, fully climate-controlled shop
