Position Overview The Hardscape Designer will collaborate closely with clients, project managers, and installation crews to develop stunning, functional, and technically precise design solutions. This role demands both creative vision and technical proficiency — the ideal candidate is equally comfortable presenting concepts to a discerning luxury client and producing detailed CAD construction drawings for a complex hardscape installation. Key Responsibilities Develop comprehensive hardscape design concepts for high-end residential and commercial clients, from initial consultation through final design presentation. Produce detailed CAD drawings including site plans, planting plans, grading plans, hardscape layouts, and construction details. Create compelling visual presentations including 3D renderings, material boards, and plant palettes tailored to luxury clientele. Conduct site analysis and assessments to inform design solutions that are both aesthetically exceptional and site-appropriate. Collaborate with the project management team to ensure designs are constructible, on-budget, and aligned with project timelines. Select and specify plants, materials, hardscape elements, lighting, irrigation components, and outdoor furnishings. Attend client meetings and design presentations, clearly communicating design intent and responding to client feedback with professionalism. Coordinate with architects, engineers, and other design professionals on integrated project teams. Maintain and organize design files, as-built documentation, and project records. Stay current with luxury landscape design trends, new materials, and industry best practices. Required Qualifications Minimum 5+ years of professional landscape design experience, with a portfolio demonstrating high-end or luxury project work. Proficiency in CAD software is required — AutoCAD, Rhino, and Lumion Strong understanding of hardscape design principles including natural stone, pavers, retaining walls, pergolas, outdoor kitchens, and water features. Solid horticultural knowledge including plant identification, selection, and performance across regional growing conditions. Ability to produce professional, client-ready design drawings and presentations. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the confidence to present to and consult with luxury clientele. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple active design projects simultaneously. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with Adobe Creative Suite or SketchUp is a plus. Estimate each design produced via an estimating system Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for site visits. Must consent to a background check and provide verifiable professional references. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's degree in Landscape Architecture, Landscape Design, Horticulture, or a closely related field. Licensure as a Landscape Architect (RLA) or active pursuit of licensure. Experience with 3D visualization tools such as Rhino and Lumion. Knowledge of irrigation design, outdoor lighting systems, and drainage solutions. Familiarity with North Carolina native plants, regional soil conditions, and local municipal design standards.
