Job Description

Landscape Design Consultant Mindfully Designed was created as an extension of our sister company, Mindful Construction, a design-build firm specializing in custom outdoor living spaces throughout the East Bay. We combine thoughtful design with exceptional craftsmanship to create beautiful, functional outdoor environments that enhance the way our clients live. We are seeking a highly organized, client-focused design professional to lead clients through our design process from initial concept through construction-ready handoff. This is not a CAD drafting position. We have an internal design and rendering team that produces the technical drawings and 3D visualizations. We are looking for someone who can bridge the gap between client vision, design intent, and construction execution. Position Overview The Landscape Design Consultant is responsible for guiding clients through the entire design development process after a project has been sold by our sales team. This role combines landscape design knowledge, plant expertise, material selection, client communication, and construction awareness. The ideal candidate understands both hardscape and softscape design and can confidently help clients make decisions regarding layouts, materials, products, and plant selections while ensuring designs are practical, buildable, and aligned with project budgets.
Responsibilities Client Design Development:
Review completed design questionnaires and project information. Schedule and conduct design meetings with clients. Understand client goals, preferences, lifestyle, and project priorities. Develop design direction and recommendations for outdoor living spaces. Guide clients through design decisions while maintaining project scope and budget.
Design Coordination:
Collaborate with our CAD and rendering team to communicate design intent. Review 2D plans and 3D renderings for accuracy and completeness. Refine designs based on client feedback and field conditions. Ensure all necessary project information is documented and uploaded into company systems.
Site Evaluation:
Conduct site visits with our build team's Project Manager Take and verify measurements.
Assess site conditions including:
Sun exposure Soil conditions Drainage Existing vegetation Wind exposure Privacy concerns Usability and circulation Planting & Material Selection Develop customized planting concepts and plant palettes. Create plant master presentations for clients. Integrate plant recommendations into 2D and 3D design presentations.
Select and specify:
Plant material Pavers Stone Walls Pergolas Lighting Decorative rock Outdoor living features Present physical samples and product options to clients. Construction Preparation Work closely with the construction Project Manager to ensure designs are feasible and buildable. Verify that selections align with project budgets. Create detailed material specifications and selection lists. Prepare plant schedules and material lists for client approval. Ensure construction teams receive complete and accurate information for estimating and project execution.
Qualifications Required:
Minimum 1 year of experience in landscape design, landscape architecture, outdoor living design, nursery management, horticulture, or related fields. Strong knowledge of California-friendly plant material. Understanding of hardscape materials and outdoor construction methods. Excellent client communication and presentation skills. Ability to interpret plans, renderings, and site measurements. Strong organizational and project coordination abilities. Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites throughout the East Bay. Preferred Experience in residential design-build environments. Knowledge of irrigation, drainage, grading, and landscape construction practices. Experience selecting plant material for varying microclimates and site conditions. Familiarity with SiteOne, Belgard, MSI, FX Lighting, and other landscape industry products. Experience working alongside construction teams. What Success Looks Like Clients feel confident and excited throughout the design process. Designs move efficiently from concept to construction. Material selections are complete and accurate. Construction teams receive clear, buildable project information. Projects remain aligned with client expectations and budget. Compensation Compensation is dependent on experience and may be structured as either a contract position or full-time role for the right candidate.
Pay:
$50.00 - $75.00 per hour
