Job Description

PROJECT MANAGER
- Outdoor Living and Landscape Design-Build Summit Deck and Patio Denver, CO Job Details Full-time $85,408.42 - $110,997.24 a year 1 hour ago Benefits On-the-job training Qualifications Vendor relationship building Customer communication Full Job Description We're a small boutique landscape design-build firm in Denver that's entering a new phase of growth. The next most important role we need to hire is a dedicated Project Manager. Right now, we have one person covering both sales and project management. Moving forward, we're splitting that into two roles so each one has a specialist in it. You and the Sales Lead would work closely together, along with the rest of our staff, but the project management side would be entirely yours. The overall responsibility of the Project Manager role is simple: make sure the project is delivered on time, on budget, at the quality level Summit expects, and with an exceptional client experience. You will coordinate projects from pre-construction through final completion, while serving as the primary point of contact for the client. We value soft skills much more than just the technical know-how for this role. It's important that you have several years of experience working in some aspect of design-build construction, remodeling, landscaping, outdoor living, or a related industry.
WHO WE ARE - OUR CULTURE
Work hard. We're a small company and every project is a team effort. Everyone here is willing to step in and help each other out when it's needed. Communicate well. The best results come from collaboration and communication, with each other, with our clients, and with the subs and vendors we work with. Take ownership. Everyone takes ownership of their responsibilities. When something goes wrong, we focus on solving the problem instead of figuring out who to blame. Treat people with respect. We don't do finger-pointing, drama, or gossip. We're also intentional about working with vendors, subcontractors, and suppliers who are reliable, responsive, and easy to work with. Build something we're proud of. The customer is at the center of everything we do. We create outdoor spaces that are thoughtfully designed, visually impressive, and built to a high standard, and we want clients to feel like they're working with people who genuinely care about their project.
OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE
Exceptional eye for design. You notice proportions, materials, and the details that make the difference between a nice project and a great one. This matters more to us than knowing how to run a crew. Ownership mindset. You treat projects as if they're your own and show a high level of care about the schedule, the quality of the work, the client's experience, and the margins on the job. Ability to have hard conversations. When a sub is behind, a client is unhappy, or something got built incorrectly, you address it directly and quickly without drama or blaming. Team player. You work closely and collaboratively with everyone on a project, and you're willing to step in and help wherever you're needed. Highly organized with great follow-through. You're excellent at managing schedules, details, and multiple projects at once. Nothing slips through the cracks, and you catch the small things before they become a bigger liability. Exceptional communicator. You build rapport easily with high-end residential clients, and you're just as effective with subcontractors, vendors, and our internal team. Self-directed. You work well autonomously, you can create your own task lists and adjust to shifting priorities, and you can make decisions on the fly in the field.
WHAT SETS US APART
In-House Design. We have landscape architects in-house, so you're not designing from scratch. Your job is to protect their design through construction. Role Specialization. Sales and design are handled by someone else. Your entire focus is delivering the work on time with exceptional quality. Your Pay Follows Your Work. Compensation is a percentage of the projects you manage, so the better you do in your role, the more directly it's reflected in your paycheck. High Autonomy While Still Working With a Team. You'd manage your own time, run your projects your way, and make decisions without being micromanaged. You'd Build the Role. You wouldn't just be handed a set of projects and told to manage them. You'd be the first person in this seat, with a significant voice in shaping how the company operates and a chance to develop the systems, processes, and standards we use as we grow. Room for Career Advancement. We're investing heavily in marketing and business development over the next year. As we grow, this role can grow into a broader operations and leadership position.
DESIRED BACKGROUNDS
Our ideal candidate has at least several years of experience in one or more of the following fields: Design-build construction High-end residential remodeling Landscape design-build or landscape construction Outdoor living, hardscape, or deck construction Custom home-building Pool, spa, or water feature construction Landscape architecture or landscape design, with real time in the field on installs Kitchen, bath, or interior design where you also managed the installation
DESIRED SKILLS / EXPERIENCE
Beyond several years of industry experience in one or more of the categories listed above, we're also looking for: PMP Certification (huge plus, but not required) The ability to read and work from architectural and engineering plans A track record of being responsible for the project outcome, not just a piece of it Direct experience working with clients yourself. We are placing a huge value on prior sales experience even though you will not be asked to sell jobs as part of this role. Prior sales experience is preferred but not required. Comfortable learning new software and technology.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES / ROLE DESCRIPTION
Once a project is sold, it's yours through completion.
Plan it before it starts:
review the design, scope, and budget, build the schedule, get selections and materials ordered, and confirm permits are handled Run it day to day: be on site, coordinate subs and vendors, keep the schedule moving, and catch problems before they get expensive Serve as the client's main point of contact from the pre-construction meeting through the final walkthrough, bringing our designer into the conversations that need them Make the small design calls in the field and protect the design intent through construction Handle change orders start to finish: identify, document, price, get client approval, and keep the office in the loop for billing Keep everything current in JobTread so the whole team can see exactly where a job stands Close it out: final walkthrough, sign-offs, punch list, and warranty work
TRAINING
You'd get a formal training period up front, plus ongoing training on the job throughout the year. Learning our company, our processes, our products, and the vendors and manufacturers we work with, including sit-downs with key vendor and product reps Shadowing our owner on active projects to see how we communicate with clients, manage subcontractors, handle job-site issues, run meetings, manage schedules, and hold our quality standards Hands-on JobTread training plus tutorial videos, covering scheduling, daily logs, client communication, change orders, billing, and project documentation Gradually taking over projects with the support and resources to do it well
COMPENSATION
First-year earning target: $85,000 - $110,000. You earn a percentage of every project you manage. You're paid out along the way as the client makes progress payments, so you don't wait until a job finishes to get paid. There are also bonuses tied to project performance, quality, client satisfaction, and profitability.
