Job Description
We are hiring an experienced CDL Crane Operator / Merlo Telehandler Grapple Saw Operator / Crew Leader to safely operate our 28 Ton crane , Merlo telehandler with grapple saw , and other equipment for tree work, removals, and right-of-way clearing. This is a leadership position , not just an operator seat. We need someone who can haul equipment from job site to job site using tractor trailer, operate safely, lead the crew, make smart decisions, manage equipment care, and keep production moving. The right person needs to understand that the ending time depends heavily on how well the job is planned, led, and executed. Strong leadership, safe decisions, good communication, and correct execution directly affect how smoothly and quickly the day is completed. This position is not exempt from manual labor . While the primary role is operating, hauling, and leading, there will be times when this person is expected to help drag limbs, use a chainsaw, assist with cleanup, and jump in wherever needed to get the job done safely and efficiently.
Weather note:
This is an outdoor tree work position, and the schedule may be affected by weather. There may be days when work is delayed, shortened, or canceled due to rain, storms, unsafe conditions, or jobsite conditions. Responsibilities Operate the company crane safely and efficiently for tree work and removals. Operate a Merlo telehandler with grapple saw safely and efficiently for tree work and removals. Haul equipment from job site to job site using tractor trailer. Operate with other equipment as needed, including Takeuchi TL8, New Holland 57c excavator , and tree chipper. Lead and direct crew members on the job site. Make safe decisions regarding crane & Merlo setup, machine setup, cuts, job flow, rigging, and crew positioning. Communicate clearly with ground crew and management. Manage basic maintenance and care of the assigned fleet and equipment. Perform daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance checks. Monitor equipment condition and report repair needs before they become major problems. Help with manual labor when needed, including dragging limbs, chainsaw work, cleanup, and general ground support. Keep jobs moving safely, efficiently, and professionally. Execute jobs correctly the first time without sacrificing safety or quality. Represent the company well with customers and team members. Requirements Valid CDL is required. Crane operating experience is required. Must be able to safely haul heavy equipment from job site to job site. Experience hauling equipment with a truck and trailer required. Extensive experience operating skid steers, excavators, and tree chippers required. Experience operating telehandlers, grapple saws, loaders, or similar heavy equipment required. Tree work, crane work, grapple saw, forestry, or right-of-way experience required. Must be capable of managing basic fleet maintenance, daily inspections, grease, fluids, minor repairs, and equipment care. Must be willing and able to perform manual labor when needed. Must be comfortable using a chainsaw when required. Must be able to lead a crew and make good field decisions. Must be dependable, safety-minded, and professional. Must be willing to stay until the job is completed. Must understand that leadership, planning, and execution directly affect how efficiently the day is finished. Must understand that outdoor tree work may be affected by rain, storms, and unsafe weather conditions. Pay This position pays $300 per day . This rate reflects the CDL requirement, crane operation, Merlo grapple saw operation, equipment hauling, additional equipment operation, fleet maintenance responsibility, leadership responsibility, jobsite decision-making, manual labor when needed, and the expectation that the crew leader stays until the job is completed. Ideal Candidate The right person is an experienced CDL crane operator, equipment operator, and crew leader who can take ownership of the job site, lead from the seat, keep the crew safe, manage equipment, solve problems, execute the job correctly, and finish the day as efficiently as possible without cutting corners. Travel / Storm
Work This position may require occasional travel for storm work when needed. Storm work may include longer days, out-of-town jobs, emergency response, and working in changing conditions. The right candidate must be willing to travel when storm opportunities come up and understand that storm work requires flexibility, strong leadership, safe decision-making, and the ability to keep the crew productive under pressure. This person will be solely responsible for this crew and will be held accountable. Pay:
