Underground Construction Miner - Decline Development Miller Contracting | Excelsior Springs, MO | Travel Required $25-$40/hour + $3/hour underground bonus + $150/day per diem for qualifying travel assignments Miller Contracting is hiring Underground Construction Miners to support decline development, underground construction, and mine development on an active hard rock project near Excelsior Springs, Missouri. This is a hands-on field role. Crew members work under experienced field leadership and may assist with decline advance, face drilling, mucking, scaling, ground support, material handling, concrete work, rigging, equipment setup and teardown, and installation of underground infrastructure. This is a full-time hourly position requiring travel, extended rotations, and typically 50-60+ hours per week, depending on the project. About Miller Contracting Founded in 2001, Miller Contracting provides underground mining and construction services throughout the United States, including shaft construction, mine development, raisebore drilling, fabrication, machining, structural steel, and heavy industrial construction. Required Qualifications Experience in hard rock mining, underground mine development, tunneling, heavy civil construction, or related underground construction work Strong mechanical aptitude Ability to work safely as part of a field crew Willingness and ability to travel for project assignments Valid driver's license Ability to work overtime, weekends, rotating shifts, and extended schedules as project needs require Ability to safely perform physically demanding work in underground environments, with or without reasonable accommodation Strong commitment to safety, quality, and dependable work Ability to meet ATF eligibility requirements for handling explosives Preferred Experience Experience in one or more of the following is preferred: Hard rock decline development Underground mine development Tunneling Drilling and blasting Mucking and scaling Ground support, bolting, screen, or shotcrete Concrete, formwork, reinforcing steel, or structural steel Rigging, signaling, or hoisting Welding or fabrication Underground equipment operation Current MSHA Part 48 certification Key Responsibilities Support decline advance, mine development, and underground rehabilitation work Install ground support, steel sets, structural components, utilities, ventilation, and drainage systems Assist with face drilling and blasting support Support mucking and scaling operations, and install bolts, screen, shotcrete, and other ground support as directed Assist with rigging, lifting, and hoisting operations, and move materials and equipment safely underground Assist with concrete placement and finishing, formwork installation and removal, and grouting Install reinforcing steel and structural components Assist with equipment setup, inspections, and basic maintenance Operate hand and power tools, and maintain organized staging and work areas Prepare work areas and stage tools, materials, and equipment, and transport materials throughout the jobsite Maintain tools and equipment in safe operating condition Support operators and skilled trades, and perform general underground construction duties as project needs require Safety Follow Miller, MSHA, OSHA, and customer safety requirements Participate in pre-shift and safety meetings Inspect tools and equipment before use Identify and report hazards Exercise Stop Work Authority when unsafe conditions exist Maintain a clean and organized work area Compensation, Schedule & Travel $25-$40/hour, based on relevant experience $3/hour underground bonus for all hours worked underground Overtime pay in accordance with applicable law $150/day per diem for qualifying travel assignments Weekly pay Typical schedules of 50-60+ hours per week Travel and extended work rotations required Quarterly discretionary profit sharing based on company performance, individual performance, attendance, safety, and policy compliance Benefits Medical, dental, and vision insurance 401(k) with company match Paid time off Paid holidays Company-paid life insurance Short-term and long-term disability Voluntary accident and critical illness coverage Equal Employment Opportunity Miller Contracting is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to maintaining a safe, respectful, and inclusive workplace.
