THE ROLE

The Heavy Equipment Operator position III is a full-time, hourly position and is located at our landfill in Lost Hills. Heavy equipment may include excavators, dozers, front-end loaders, scrapers and other pieces of equipment.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

Operate heavy equipment in a safe and effective manner in order to minimize the risk of injury, property damage or fatalities Perform daily safety and maintenance checks Clean heavy equipment as scheduled and/or required Ensure heavy equipment is safely and securely stored Advise the Superintendent of any requirements for maintenance or repairs Participate in routine maintenance Practice workplace safety Perform other related duties

Requirements:

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND REQUIREMENTS

Environmental conditions - The Heavy Equipment Operator must work outside in all different weather conditions including extreme cold and extreme heat. The operator may at times be exposed to dangerous and/or toxic substances and must take necessary precautions to protect eyes, nose and skin from irritation and infection. Mental demands- Conditions that may lead to mental or emotional fatigue. This position entails working independently and maintaining a schedule of work. Any problems or inconveniences may result in increased stress to complete tasks in a limited time. Occasionally lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling 25 to 50 pounds. Climb on and around equipment and sit for long periods while operating equipment. Work outside year-round in the different weather conditions and temperatures. Lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time. Able to climb a minimum of 2 story of stairs

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS, SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

5+ years of experience in the following: Supervisor or leadership experience Efficiently and effectively reporting to government agencies like O'SHA Must be fully competent to perform all Operator I and II tasks Well-versed in all aspects of landfill administration Equipment safety Operation of front-end loaders, dozers, excavators, scrapers and other pieces of heavy equipment Workplace safety requirements and procedures Record keeping system Equipment cleaning standards and procedures Ability to operate heavy equipment in a safe and responsible manner Decision making skills Effective verbal and listening communication skills Ability to read and write to record pickups and maintain daily records Time management Must pass drug screen and physical.
