Position Overview Aspen Digger, Inc. is seeking experienced, skilled Excavator Operators to join our growing field crew. These are full-time, year-round positions based out of the Carbondale/Glenwood Springs area. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience in civil construction excavation, a strong work ethic, and the ability to operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently across varied terrain and project types. This role is critical to the success of our field operations and offers opportunities for advancement within our organization. Responsibilities Safely and efficiently operate various-sized tracked excavators on civil construction projects Perform earthwork including excavation, trenching, backfill, grading, and site preparation Install or assist with installation of underground utilities including water, sewer, storm drain, and conduit Read and interpret project plans, grade stakes, and survey markings to work to specified tolerances Perform daily pre-operation inspections, routine maintenance checks, and report equipment issues promptly Coordinate with operators, laborers, and supervisors to maintain jobsite workflow and productivity Follow all OSHA safety standards, company safety policies, and site-specific safety requirements at all times Operate additional equipment as needed, including skid steers, dozers, and compaction equipment Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area Represent Aspen Digger professionally with clients, inspectors, and project stakeholders on-site
Qualifications Required:
Minimum 2 years of verifiable experience operating a full-size tracked excavator in a civil construction environment Demonstrated ability to work to grade and maintain accurate tolerances Strong understanding of trenching, shoring, and excavation safety practices Ability to read basic site plans and work from grade stakes and survey control Reliable transportation to and from our shop in Carbondale, CO. Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team Preferred:
Experience with underground utility installation (water, sewer, storm, conduit) CDL (Class A or B) — not required but a significant plus Familiarity with CDOT or municipal right-of-way work Experience on projects in mountainous or high-elevation terrain Physical Requirements Ability to operate heavy equipment for extended periods in varying weather conditions Occasional lifting, shoveling, and manual labor alongside equipment operation Comfortable working in confined spaces, trenches, and on uneven or sloped terrain Valid driver's license with a clean driving record Compensation & Benefits Pay range $35-$42/hr Overtime opportunities available Year-round, stable employment PTO Opportunities for advancement into lead operator and supervisory roles Work on high-profile, high-quality projects across one of Colorado's most active construction markets Work Location & Schedule Location:
