Operate the Material / Worker transport Hoist. Perform daily hoist safety checklists. Safely power on, power off, and lock out the hoist. Perform routing diagnostics and distance troubleshooting to ensure constant and safe material and personnel flow throughout the construction site Reports to: Senior Construction Superintendent Wage Status:
Non-Exempt (Eligible for overtime) Essential Functions:
Fluent in hoist operation requirements including start and stop speeds of hoist or winch drums in response to a variety of signals, including hand, bell, buzzer, telephone, loud-speaker, or whistle signals Operate the Material / Worker transport Hoist Complete safety and operations checklist before every shift, carrying passengers only after daily / shift inspection is complete. Inspect all electrical cabling for damage or defects. Do not operate the hoist unless all equipment is in proper working order Take calls from workers on site and operate the hoist safely and reliably Unlock the electrical cutout switch, inspect hoist, and be in safe operation by 0700 daily Report hoist operational issues immediately to hoist service contractor and Site Superintendent Report safety issues immediately and secure hoist until safety issue is resolved Provide controls and electrical support and diagnostics to identify when service is needed Provide occasional assistance in the labor/loading effort if assigned to operate the hoist for the purpose of moving material Monitor equipment gauges and indicators to verify load position Reposition hoist as required to provide safe and effective alignment at floors for contractors and to facilitate loading Maintain locked doors at all times unless Hoist is aligned and loading a floor Secure hoist and landing doors prior to every trip Secure hoist at the end of the working day and / or end of shift, per site lock out procedures Operate in a safe and professional manner Operate in a friendly cooperative basis giving no preference or priority to any subcontractor unless specifically scheduled for a time slot and authorized by the Site Superintendent Inspect visually power cables and equip per manufacture instructions. Call for and coordinate operator or security support for breaks prior to leaving hoist. Hoist must remain operational 100% of the workday Perform a variety of tasks that may involve strenuous labor Maintain a clean job site: pick up all tools and equipment in work areas and secure job site each day in order to eliminate potential hazards. Material handling and storage Ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed. Bring problems to the attention of the Site Superintendent or Safety Supervisor Walk through and complete daily, weekly and pre-operational safety checklists before restoring the hoist to operation with diligence. Special Requirements:
Must not ever give preference to one contractor over another unless the Inventory manager or site super directs one to do so. Each call shall be taken in order of floor and or in the order received. If operator takes preference for one contractor over another or operates the hoist displaying malicious intent or purpose of slowing the job down, the operator will be given one written warning. Second event, will be considered reason for immediate termination and removal from the site. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Calm, courteous, and clear communication skills Ability to communicate and coordinate with multiple subcontractors requiring hoist usage Basic knowledge of first aid Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions Ability to use hand tools and basic equipment to perform diagnostics and distance troubleshooting with McDonough Hoist Technicians OSHA 30 Construction site and logistics plan familiarity Education, Training and Experience Minimum of 3 years hoist operation experience OSHA 30 Training Fall Protection Training Operator Training Work Context Regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt. Must be able to lift, push, pull or carry objects, use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue and to effectively jump, sprint or throw an object. Requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination. Noise level is generally loud. Must be able to quickly move arms and legs. Excellent stamina is required. Additional Requirements Ability to perform heavy lifting (at least 60 lbs), climb ladders up to 24 ft, stand and walk for 8 hours, and perform other physically demanding duties as directed.
