CITY OF PINELLAS PARK, FL
Non-Exempt Grade 509
Streets Maintenance Operator Definition:
Under close supervision, provides semi-skilled maintenance and repair support for the City's Streets and rights-of-ways.
Essential Functions:

Tasks:
Patches and repairs road asphalt; constructs and repairs concrete curbs, sidewalks, and driveways; removes, cuts and prunes trees; cleans debris from roadways; controls traffic flow at work sites; surveys city streets for damage; forms, pours and finishes concrete; mows shoulders and rights- of-way. Loads and unloads trucks and equipment; plans and organizes assignments by determining appropriate tools needed for the job; operates light to some heavy equipment in the performance of duties. Maintains a safe working environment; follows prescribed safety procedures; receives direction from and reviews specifications for projects and assignments with Senior Streets Maintenance Operator or Foreman. Must meet schedule and attendance standards: regular hours, standby overtime, and callout overtime as required. Performs related Public Works duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Other Characteristics:
Knowledge of material safety data sheets and safety regulations. Knowledge of concrete curb, sidewalk driveway apron, and roadway construction. Knowledge of City regulations regarding streets maintenance and repair. Knowledge of the proper use of light to heavy construction equipment. Knowledge of personnel principles, practices, rules, and regulations. Skill in the operation of light construction equipment (e.g. backhoe, dump and spreader truck, rollers and asphalt distributor, chipper, compactor, chain saw, forklift, jack hammer, etc.). Skill in the operation of hand and power tools. Skill in following oral and written instructions. Skill in analyzing information and drawing valid conclusions Skill in developing and maintaining effective interpersonal relationships. Skill in oral communications in one-on-one and group situations. Skill in working with people at all levels in the organization.
Physical Requirements:
Work involves difficult working positions and movement of objects weighing up to 95 pounds. Performs semi-skilled labor in mainly outdoor conditions constantly exposed to heat, cold, adverse weather, uneven terrain, traffic, fumes, water, fields, chemicals, solvents, moving objects, insects, and toxic plants, etc. Operates small equipment such as shovel, pick, chain saw, edger and mowers to heavy equipment including trucks, tractor, backhoe, traffic roller, and steel wheel roller. Requires the physical ability to perform all job functions including the ability to walk, push, bend, stoop, carry, lift, push, dig, and climb.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED. The equivalent of three (3) years of facilities and roadway construction maintenance experience is desirable. Ability to be contacted by telephone for call-out after hours. Requires Florida CDL Class B license with air brake and tanker endorsements to be obtained within twelve (12) months of date of hire.
