Our reputation is built on honesty, integrity, hard work, safety, and quality workmanship. Rowland is seeking a dependable and experienced Excavator Operator to join our team. This position supports open-cut utility repair and replacement projects throughout Hillsborough, Pasco, and Pinellas counties. Position Summary The Excavator Operator receives written or verbal instructions from the Foreman regarding materials to be moved and areas to be excavated. This position operates tracked or rubber-tired excavators, backhoes, and related heavy equipment to excavate and move soil, rock, sand, and other materials. The operator will also use equipment and attachments to handle pipes, fittings, structures, tools, and other jobsite materials. Key Responsibilities Safely operate excavators, backhoes, front-end loaders, graders, and related heavy equipment. Perform mass excavation, trenching, backfilling, grading, and compaction work. Work safely with trench boxes and support pipe-laying operations. Operate equipment around underground utilities and near crew members. Dig ditches and trenches according to project plans, grades, and specifications. Hoist and move pipes, fittings, tools, equipment, and other jobsite materials. Inspect equipment before use and report maintenance or safety concerns. Assist the pipe crew and perform general labor duties when needed. Follow all company safety policies and applicable health and safety regulations. Communicate effectively with the Foreman, supervisors, and crew members. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Previous heavy-equipment operating experience required. Experience operating excavators and backhoes required. Experience with underground utility construction, trenching, pipe laying, and trench boxes preferred. Ability to operate equipment safely near underground utilities and active crews. Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions. Strong communication and teamwork skills. Ability to perform physical duties associated with heavy-equipment operation, including bending, kneeling, stooping, reaching, and climbing into, out of, and around equipment. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record preferred. Dependable work ethic and commitment to jobsite safety.
