Heavy Equipment Operator

Performs semi-skilled and skilled work in the operation of a variety of light and heavy equipment in construction, repair and maintenance of roadways, drainage, easements and other City areas.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

This position is supervised by the Operations Manager as determined by the Director of Public Works or the Director of Agronomy.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

In the absence of the Crew Chief and Crew Leader, this position may be required to act as a lead worker for the full-time and part-time Maintenance Technician, classifications community service workers and/or temporary employees as required and assigned. Operates a variety of light and heavy equipment including trucks, back hoe, motor grader, track hoe, front end loader, bucket truck, tractors, tiger mowers, and other equipment in the maintenance of the parks and grounds areas, median maintenance, canals, easements, storm sewers, catch basins, roadways and related work Performs debris removal (vegetation, trash, carcasses, etc.) from rights-of-way and City-owned property Trains other employees on the proper use of equipment as requested Mows canal banks, maintains median landscape, and assists with repairs and installation of culvert and catch basins Services and makes minor repairs to equipment Evaluates status of mechanical equipment and vehicles and performs or schedules needed repairs Conducts various inspections of heavy equipment to determine the most cost?effective means of maintenance, repair or replacement Performs mosquito spraying under the direction of a licensed technician Documents daily work actions and hours in work order software Performs duties as assigned during emergency response conditions Performs any other related duties as required or assigned High School Diploma or equivalent, and Experience in the operation of light and heavy equipment, or Any related combination of education, training, and experience Valid Florida State Driver's License with a good driving record Must have the ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License Certification Type B within 6-month probationary period
